Unit 11: HEALTH – Vocab practice

Attila has been sneezing and coughing all day – the poor devil (szegény pára) must be coming down with
cold. He’s got a sore throat. I think he needs some syrup or drops for cough. So I’m reaching out for him:
MR. TEACHER - Hey, Ati, what’s wrong with you? You look pale. Are you going to be taken ill?
ATI - I dunno, man. I’ve a runny nose for sure. I musta just caught a cold. But ya chill out, man. Not gonna
die of it. Not a fatal disease or something. Just don’t ya worry ’about it! Gonna be awright.
MR. TEACHER - Those might be flu symptoms. Cough, please, Breathe deeply! I can tell if it a cold or flu.
ATI - Ya ain’t give me that line (ne gyere ezzel a dumával), ye ain’t my GP, ya smart aleck (okoskodó)!
Ya ain’t gonna make out a prescription next thing for me, are ya?
MR. TEACHER - Hey, buddy, chill out, all I’m just trying to do is help you.
ATI - Awright, hey, see I’m sorry! No offence, dude! (Nem akartalak megbántani)
MR. TEACHER - That’s OK. Not taken! (Nem vettem fel) By the way, how long have ben feeling like this, my
Christian bro? What are your symptoms?

ATI – Like one week, bro. Ya see, I’m not takin’ any medicine cuz I ain’ trust conventional medicine. I stayed
in bed on Wed took a sleepin’ pill but that’s it, dude. Had temperature yesterday though but I ain’t
care. I’ll recover from it before long.

MR. TEACHER – You see, Ati, I reckon you’ve got to take better care of yourself. And of those around you.
What is you’ve had a contagious disease for one week and you’ve been infecting others as well?

ATI – No way, Jose! Just don’t ya worry ’about it! I’m gonna get over it. Don’t ya worry ’bout me, man.

Last month I had something like pneumonia and I ain’t go on sick leave just walked it over.

(lábon kihord)

MR. TEACHER – Something like? Are you out of your mind? You should have had a check-up! But I guess

you just don’t trust National Health System and that’s why you don’t consult doctors, right?
