ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES.
The information on this fiyer will describe the assessment procedures
that will be used in my classroom, including my philosophy on grading,
assessment, and homework.
rT
| believe that the purpose of grades is to communicate student achievement of
learning targets.
Tests and Quizzes will be worth roughly 70% of the final grade, labs and
projects will be worth 20%, and homework 10%.
Learning targets are statements of educational material that students should
be able to accomplish after completion of the course.
Assessments are a student's opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of
learning targets.
| believe that assessment should be ongoing in the classroom, utilizing both
formal and informal assessments in order to adjust instruction for better
learning.
| believe that the most important thing is that students learn what they are
supposed to learn, regardless of when they learn it during the semester. For
this reason, | will allow test and quiz retakes for full credit.
Homework is a student's chance to practice the material that they will be
assessed on in the future.
Some homework in my class will be graded, but most will not. | want the
student's final grade to reflect their achievement after they have finished
learning, not during the learning process.
