Kellet Reading on Participation

Children participation has been explained to be a more complex

category. Children have a variety of ways of participating in a dynamic

environment. Kellet (2015) explains that listening to the views of children

increases their participation. According to Kellet children should be given a

chance to contribute in decision making process. Children’s resource is of

importance. Children rights need to provide a linear participation

opportunity as opposed to Hart’s model which looks at children participation

as nonlinear. Children should be provided with a safe environment and

access to adequate information to strengthen their participation in society.

They should be empowered and their problems solved in order to for them

to influence their own life positively. Kellet argues that time and space are

crucial for children and young people participation (Kellet et al, 2015).

Listening, media and oral presentation is very important in children

participation. Adult language should be encouraging and good enough to

develop confidence in children. Children should be exposed to the

information for them to develop influential skills in life. Development of

practice is a continuous process but for a start I will ensure that am

conversant with all concepts of communication skills both verbal and

nonverbal cues. Developing good morals also is a crucial requirement as a

practitioner. I will also ensure that I understand the needs of contemporary

society at hand. I will allow children contribution in decision making with

total freedom as adults to have their say without discrimination (Kellet et
