NOLI ME TANGERE
Reflection by: Jhaybie San Buenaventura

These are the following questions given to us. The items 1-3 are answered by the person I have
interviewed:

1. What is the importance of your character in the story?

"I am Maria Clara and I am important in the story because I portray all Filipino women who are regarded
as conservative and elegant even in their simplest way. However, I also portray Filipino women who
cannot fight for their love or passion because they are constrained by parents' desires and what other
people may say. They are obligated to the point that they don't follow what they want and be miserable
about it. Maria Clara in short is weak and strong at the same time."

2. How did you interpret your role?

"I connected with my character. I searched for our similarities and I found ways on how to really
understand her reactions and emotions on events. I regarded her as someone who is real and true, a
person who is really suffering. I gave empathy to the character."

3.What are the experiences you have gained from this play?

"Tiring but worth it. The rehearsals were tiring especially that I am also a college student. I have been
struggling on how to balance both my passion and responsibility. The fruits of our play was seen on the
audience. They make us feel like we've done what we were meant to achieve. It also made us feel like
we're part of the history and of nation-building."

4. My overall comment about the play.

The play is alive and amazing. It really gives me a visualization of the events that happened from the
book. I like the way that the actors interpret their roles. I was late to watch it but it was still worth to be
watched again and again. And also the props and other decorations are very attractive. It was a great
play
