WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Kelsea Furbish

Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other website-
creation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology
create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The
learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will
view/use/benefit from students’ work. Review your handouts on Engaged Learning, Authenticity, and LoTi.

MGSE9-12.A.CED.1 Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems.
Include equations arising from linear, quadratic, simple rational, and exponential functions (integer
inputs only).
MGSE9-12.A.APR.7 Understand that rational expressions form a system analogous to the rational
numbers, closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by a nonzero rational
expression; add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions.

Brief Description of Learning Experience:

This lesson will be a continuation of the Online Projects lesson. Students will be writing blog posts
explaining their findings and including any visuals or creations they made. They will also be
communicating with other students and teachers that are participating in the project. Teachers will become
one of the students and reply to other student’s findings that are not in her classroom to give constructed
feedback. Students will be developing a post that explains their findings.
This project will be introduced at the start of the project lesson to give students enough time to get their
permission forms signed. This project takes about a week to complete to allow for a variety of responses.
This also gives students an ample amount of time to post and comment and gain a better understanding of
the golden ratio. Students and teachers participating in the project will be able to see what the students
post. The audience is limited to participating classes in the middle school and high school public school
system.

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):

This lesson is LoTi level 5 because students are creating authentic videos and drawing of the golden ratio in
society. Students are also collaborating with schools from around the world to see what other students have
found where they are from. Students are able to reply to any post if they have questions or just want to
comment on other’s ideas.

Importance of technology:
This blog is critical to the learning because students are able to see other ways of approaching the golden
ratio and how it is used in other parts of the world. Student’s would be limited to their area and not see how
the math standard effects the world and is not just used in the math class instead it is seen and used by

everyone. Student’s will be using laptops to share their ideas and cameras to video themselves, nature or
their creations.

Inspiration (optional): If you used existing example as a model for your project (whether in part or
whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you “borrowed” from others.
The project was found on iearn at: https://iearn.org/cc/space-2/group-455
The classwork itself was borrowed from the project.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
Students will be sharing what they look like, their names, and what school/ area they are from. This blog
site will have a passcode for only students and teachers in public school systems following the project.
Their will be a moderator and someone ho checks each post before it is published to check for any privacy
issues. Parents will b notified about the project and told that only teachers, students and administrators
completing this project will have access to the blog. Students will receive a permission to display name,
photo and student work form from the teacher before they complete the blog portion of the project. Parents
can ask for their student’s name and picture to not be displayed or to be blurred to keep their identity
private if they feel unsafe.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
I am trying to incorporate two-way collaboration with people outside of the classroom to allow for students
to have meaning behind the material. I hope to learn how to effectively incorporate blogs into the math
classroom and to help keep students engaged while having high loti levels and blooms levels. I hope to see
students engaging in the blog and finding new ways to see the golden ratio in nature and how to create the
golden ratio.
Other comments about your proposed activity: If parents do not want their child to participate they can
share their findings with their classmates and the teacher
