Time 100 Response Photo

This is a photo of my Mom and Step Dad on a beach on Gabriola. The reason I chose
this photo as a response photo to my Time 100 Photo is because my Time 100 photo is
of a soldier neck deep in water on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day so I asked my
Mom and Step Dad to walk along the beach so I could try to recreate the photo as best I
could.
Since it is the middle of Autumn, I’m obviously not going to ask them to go in the
water since it would be extremely cold, so I figured this would be the best recreation I
could do. I edited the photo to make it black and white to make it look like it was taken
around the 1940’s. I figured making it black and white would make it look more like a
recreation since I couldn’t ask them to go in the water. I also made it look a little more
grainy and blurry since that’s how Robert Capa’s photos from 1944 turned out.

I wanted to stand relatively far away from them when I took this photo so that it looks
a little more realistic and not like I asked them to walk along the beach, even though I
did. Since it was a bright, sunny day, I edited the sun out and made the sky look very
dark and gray, just like how it was on D-Day. Even though the battle took place during
the summer, the sky was apparently very dark and the weather was quite chilly. I think
that I did a pretty good job at recreating the D-Day photo, especially making it look
grainy and blurry.
