Paragraph 1
-Begin with an outstanding player, key play or
analytical approach lead.
-For outstanding player, talk about his board (e.g.
total points, rebounds, assists, etc.)
-For key play, choose something that is extraordinary
(e.g. 3-pointers, buzzer-beater layup, etc.)
-If very good at it, you may use novelty leads.
-Do not forget to include other details such as the
team names/monickers, score, name of the game,
where, and when.
Paragraph 2
-This could be a statement from the outstanding
player or the one who made the key play.
-It could be a transition for the play by play account.
Paragraphs 3-4
-Play by play account focusing on the winning team.
Paragraphs 5-6
-Play by play account focusing on the losing team.
Paragraph 7
-Individual stars of the winning team.
Paragraph 8
-Individual stars of the losing team.
Paragraph 9
-Interview statement from the winning team
Paragraph 10
-Interview statement from the losing team
Notes:
-You may add more paragraphs if necessary.
-Quotations from interviews may be placed in
between paragraphs as needed.
-Describe the play by play accounts in reverse
chronology.
-Enhance each paragraph by using appropriate
context of the game and background of the players,
coaches, and teams.
-Analyze the team’s performance in terms of statistics
-Use appropriate sports lingos.
-You may inject your opinions concerning the actions
you witnessed (i.e., describe a team’s defense as
SLOPPY; a catch in the outfield as MIRACULOUS; a
player’s leaping ability as GRAVITY-DEFYING)
-Use colorful verbs freely, but do not get them
confused with clichés.
Use sports jargons (e.g. threw a bomb; lobbed an
alley-hoop; busted a monster jam).
Tips in writing the headline
-As much as possible, include the significance of the
win or lose in the headline.
-The headline should match the lead you used.
-If lead is outstanding player, then headline should
play up the outstanding player.
E.g.Namayani si Calvin Abueva nang magposte ng ‘di
mapantayang 43 puntos at itawid ang Alaska Aces
kontra San Miguel Beermen , 96-94, upang ibulsa ang
kauna-unahang panalo sa Philippine Basketball
