TESTAMENT

The greatest story ever told becomes the greatest story ever EXPERIENCED! The You
Testament takes you back to the time of Christ and allows you to witness his impact
on society firsthand. Be the feet that follow him around ancient Palestine, the
voice that tempts him in the wilderness, and the ears that hear his guidance. Then
be the hand that betrays him, the mouth that denies him, and the eyes that see his
death and resurrection. By the time the story has been told, it will be the most
personal account ever documented - the Gospel according to YOU! Featuring a unique
interpretation of events and scriptural references for further reading, the
teachings of Christ have never been more relevant and accessible. Neither pious nor
blasphemous, The You Testament is a thought-provoking challenge of what you thought
you knew and an uplifting reminder of what will always be true...

--------------------------------------- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

---------------------------------------

This game requires an operating system compatible with DirectX 7.0 graphics. A
strong processor of around 1.6gHz is recommended for smooth running. Please consult
the Options menu to configure the game for optimum performance...

* Vista users may experience difficulties on "limited accounts" and are advised to
run the program as an "administrator"...

---------------------------------------- CONTROLS
----------------------------------------

MENU NAVIGATION
The menus of the game can be navigated with either keys, gamepad, or mouse.
Highlighting an option with the cursors and pressing ENTER (or any gamepad button)
will access it, whereas hitting ESCAPE cancels or returns you to the previous
screen. Settings can be adjusted by simply using left and right directions (or left
and right clicks in the case of a mouse), and where there are countless
possibilities you should find that you can "randomize" your way closer to what you
want with the SPACE BAR or "revert" with BACKSPACE...

GAME CONTROLS
The game can be controlled with either keys or gamepad. The precise layout for each
method can be redefined in the Options menu, but by default they are as follows:

KEYS
CURSORS = Movement
A = Attack
Z = Run / Clamber
S = Manipulate (Use Power)
X = Pick-Up / Use Item
SPACE = Sit / Meditate

GAMEPAD
DIRECTIONS = Movement
Button 3 = Attack
Button 1 = Run / Clamber
Button 4 = Manipulate (Use Power)
Button 2 = Pick-Up / Use Item
Button 7 = Sit / Meditate
MOVEMENT
The movement of your character should feel quite natural because what you see is
what you get. Your commands are filtered through the perspective of the camera, so
UP always heads into the distance and DOWN always comes towards you. The camera
should slowly adjust itself to follow your character, but if you're not happy with
the view you can change it at any time with the mouse (clicking to zoom in or out).
Your character strolls by default, but you can choose to run somewhere quickly by
holding down the command. If you're having trouble mounting a piece of scenery, you
can also clamber by tapping it twice in quick succession...

ATTACKING
Whether you're defending yourself or deliberately provoking another character, you
have several attacks at your disposal. Pressing the command on its own will kick
low, whereas holding a direction will punch high. Pressing ATTACK and RUN
simultaneosly will throw out a slower but more powerful big attack. Likewise,
attacking with a run-up will trigger a powerful momentum attack. When an opponent
is on the ground, attacking will result in a stomp. If you're holding a weapon, all
of the above actions will be tailored to make use of it. Your attacks aren't
especially "aimed" by default, so you may like to clarify your intentions with the
direction commands...

ITEM INTERACTION
There are many different items scattered throughout the world which serve different
purposes. Inanimate objects can be dropped with the same command you used to pick
them up (adding a direction and holding will THROW them instead!). Food and wine,
on the other hand, is consumed when you try to get rid of it. Likewise, you can
choose to drink from pools of water by using the command where there is no object
to pick up. Do remember that grabbing items isn't reserved for those on the ground!
Pressing the command near somebody else with an item will snatch theirs...

MEDITATION
You can sit and rest with the SIT command, but it's true purpose is to enter a
meditative state. Holding down the command will cause you to meditate rather than
sit normally. In this state, you can generate spiritual energy and then distribute
it throughout the body with the direction commands. Directing it to certain chakras
will highlight special powers once they've been taught to you. Depending on the
power, you can either benefit from it by holding your attention there or you can
activate it by releasing the meditation command...

MIRACLES
Once a power has been activated, you should find that you enter a special state in
which the direction commands make use of it in some way. There are too many
possibilities to mention (and to do so would spoil the surprise anyway!), so you
may like to experiment. Bear in mind that many powers are also saved to your left
hand to be used while out and about for a limited time. In this case, holding the
MANIPULATE command will reach out and exert the desired influence. Again, you
should also find that direction commands help to clarify your intentions...

GAME MANAGEMENT
Once your game is in underway, you can exit at any suitable moment by simply
pressing ESCAPE. Your progress and the exact circumstances of your surroundings
will then be saved for you to return to at any time. If you'd like to take a
temporary break, it may be more convenient to pause the current action by pressing
the P key (and again to resume). During conversations and cut-scenes, you can
always skip through the text by pressing any command. If you'd like to take a
souvenir of any moment in your game, you can also save a screenshot to the "Photo
Album" folder by pressing F12 at any time. You can delete any unwanted saved games
with the DELETE or BACKSPACE keys...
------------------------------------------- SURVIVAL TIPS
--------------------------------------------------------

NAVIGATION
The game revolves around you following Jesus's movements around a map of Israel,
consisting of 32 unique locations. Jesus's current location will be indicated by a
cross and you should aim for it if you wish to progress the story. Each location
has up to 4 entrances and exits to the north, south, east, and west. Simply heading
down any given path will express your intention to move on to the sign-posted
destination. You should find that a small preview of the map pops into view to
clarify things for you...

PHYSICAL HEALTH
Your existence in the game hinges on a balance between mind, body, and soul. Your
physical health is indicated by a green meter to the left. This is exhausted over
time - especially when you choose to run instead of walking. As it deteriorates,
you should notice that your actions slow down alongside it - culminating in a tired
stagger. When your health disappears completely, you will risk death! You can
prevent things reaching this stage by taking time to sit and recoup energy. A more
satisfying way is to consume food. There are many different types of nourishment -
such as meat which is more effective than fruit...

MENTAL HEALTH
In addition to "physical" health, the blue bar in the middle indicates "mental"
health - which causes a nervous breakdown when exhausted! In this state, you will
temporarily lose control of your actions and will almost certainly do something
regrettable. You can prevent this state occurring by indulging the pleasures of
life. This might involve acquiring possessions or having pleasant exchanges with
other members of society. You can even make yourself feel better by taking it out
on others! However, the safest and cleanest way to keep your mental health afloat
is to drink water from its various sources...

SPIRITUAL ENERGY
If you want to follow in the footsteps of Jesus then "spiritual" health is just as
important as the others. It's impossible to unlock the benefits of meditation
unless you have enough spiritual credit to do so. Not only does it take spiritual
energy to reach the various chakras, but it's also required to maintain them once
they're activated. You can acquire spiritual energy at will by meditating, but a
faster route is to do good deeds and act virtuously (look out for tips from Jesus
as to what this involves). Prevention is also the best cure, so you must resist the
temptation to sin - which could take your karma into minus figures! This involves
fighting or engaging in any other disreputable activity...

RELATIONSHIPS
You have a unique relationship with every other character in the game, which may
either be positive or negative. Annoying people will increase the chances of them
making your life harder, whereas winning them as friends will ensure that they come
to your aid. You can embrace people by making eye contact and moving near them at
close range. If reciprocated, this will forge a bond and will also improve the
quality of your life. Beware of the opposite sex though! Cavorting with women for
too long may result in offspring, which gives you a family to worry about whenever
you're at that location...

LAW AND ORDER

Your activities are closely monitored by an oppressive Roman regime. They serve as
law enforcers and will be the first to admonish you for unacceptable behaviour.
They also like to restrict your actions by having you sit down at night and not
during the day. Failure to adhere to these rules will not only result in a severe
beating but could even culminate in arrest! You can be "wanted" in any given area
for a particular crime. Upon being caught for it, you will then face trial and may
be imprisoned or punished more severely...
