I attended a marching band competition in Fuquay-Varina.
Specifically, I watched Green level High schools show, “Into the Quiet”. I watched it on Saturday, October 19. Their show was about Beethoven. It had multiple famous pieces of music written by Beethoven in it such as “ode to Joy”. There were a lot of quiet, peaceful moments and there were also a lot of big, loud moments. They performed so that the quiet parts were very well balanced and stylistically, they were on point. For example, when they performed a section of ode to joy, they played it so it was a very smooth and gentle sound and made it sound very graceful. When they played their loud moment, it was a great contrast in sound going from a soft sound to a loud, energetic sound. They did a very good job of making the fast notes come out very clearly to the audience and they did a great job of balancing with each other. Even though the moment was loud, it was loud as an ensemble. I couldn’t hear anyone sticking out. Everyone matched their tone, pitch, and volume. At the end of their performance, they did a good job of not losing energy and did well to drop down to nothing at the ending. The percussion throughout the performance added great effects to the winds throughout the performance. All in all, I really enjoyed their performance.
