Concerts are a fantastic way to understand music and experience the energy the artist is
trying to present to the audience that is listening. On February 02, 2022, I got to experience Time
for Three’s performance when they were on the show “Tiny Desk Concert” hosted by NPR
Music. They perform songs like “Banjo Love,” “Sundays,” and my favorite “Don Don.” Time for
Three consists of three people Zachary DePue, Nick Kendall, and Rannan Meyers and they all
have unique instruments that they feel comfortable playing, for example, Zackary played the
violin and so does Nick, but Rannan plays the bass.
The way Time for Three played their instruments was super impressive as you can really
see and hear how skilled they are. The artists did a wonderful job blending each sound of each
instrument together because you can hear all the different sounds even when one instrument
takes control, for example, in the song “Sundays” the bass was the main instrument in the
beginning then the violins came in. The violins were much louder than the bass, but you can still
hear the bass super well and they did an excellent job not overpowering each other. They did an
excellent job with all the songs they performed when it came to not overpowering each other and
they were just fantastic.
Not only did they blend the instruments together well, but they also had a contrast
between the different music they played. For example, “Banjo Love” had a good amount of
energy, and personally, it made me feel happy and somewhat energized when I heard it but, the
song “Sundays” you can feel what they experienced when making that song and the song had
low energy but not sad, instead, I would say it kind of makes you feel neutral because you are
not happy nor sad. The last song they performed “Don Don” was a masterpiece in my eyes as it
was my favorite song and was a great way to end the show because it had the most energy out of
all three sounds they performed. The way they constructed when to play each song was
astonishing because they started the concert with a decent energy song then went to a song with
low energy and ended the concert with a song with incredible energy. Overall, I like the way
they constructed the songs they performed as you see can hear the contrast in the different
sounds.
Overall, my experience was amazing as I got to experience music that I usually do not
participate in listening to, but was an experience. I got to see how they perform and got to
understand how much practice it takes to have the confidence to perform in front of a massive
audience. The energy at the concert was incredible as the crowd would cheer after every song
they performed since their performance was outstanding. When listening to all the different
songs I got to hear the different sounds each instrument made and saw how coordinated the
artists were when playing the songs and it was kind of mind-blowing because they knew exactly
when to start playing without looking at a music sheet. It was a wonderful experience and I had
fun.
