Concert Report

The concert I attended was Jazz Festival Concert at Elon University. This concert was
featuring The Brubeck Brothers Quartet. It was an energetic, exciting and very entertaining.
The university provided great vibe and atmosphere for the concert. In the starting of the
concert, all the musicians and director, everyone was so excited for their performance. The
band consist of a saxophone player, four trumpet players, four trombone players, guitar
players, two bass players and two piano players.
On saxophone, it was Phillip Whack, He was a guest artist. Reeds were played by,
Spencer Buehlman (alto sax), Anne Williams (alto sax), Aaron Gates and Cody Belton (tenor
sax) and Noah Whittaker (bari sax). On the guitar, It was Andy Page, a guest artist too. On
the trumpets were, Chris Terry, Ben Hawkins, Nathan Miller and Andrew Zagari. On the
trombones were, Sandy Griffin, Jason Dunn, Clara Mueller and Richard McBride. Playing
piano were, Anu Venkat and Alexandra Byres. Sam Ellingsworth was on the drums. And
there was a vocalist, Sara Baker, she was so amazing. Ian Rondon and Dillard Moss were on
the bass. Rusty Smith directed the whole jazz band. The concert started playing some
instruments. All the instruments were played so soothingly. Both piano players were
switching in and out in the entire concert. jazz leaves a very different feeling within a person
because of the way the music plays to the ears and the mind of the individual.
The song they played was “A to Z”, it was a really good melody. It was a smooth song.
The other song was “In your own sweet way”, it was very enjoyable song. “Moody” song
was a great jazz classic song. The jazz band members were all so into the music and they
performed really gracefully. The song “Since love had”, was also a really nice melody. And
there was a song from a cd called lifetimes, it was a smooth jazz song. All the songs were
sounding very nice with the humming of saxophone. The piano beats made all the songs very
cheerful.
At last, The Brubeck brothers quartet performed so gracefully. They played so many
pieces back to back. It was so exciting. The rhythm of all the pieces were so engaging. The
performance was phenomenal. It grabbed the audience really well. The passion they had was
phenomenal. Jazz leaves a very different feeling within a person because of the way the
music plays to the ears and the mind of the person who listens it. Jazz performance depends
on mood and personal experience of performance.
Overall, jazz ensemble flowed very well, and it was a great experience. I think it was
very well directed. I had never been to a concert like that before, but after seeing this concert
I think I should often go to concerts like this. I have never taken interest in Jazz until finally
seeing it live in the concert. It was more pleasurable than I ever thought. This experience
added to the course and was much more enjoyable. While I am not pursuing a career in
music, I am interested in attending more live jazz concert and expanding my musical interest.
