Exercise 17

Beyond Free Fall throwing the ball upward

OBJECTIVES:
1. To determine the initial velocity of a ball thrown upward
2. To calculate the maximum height reached by the ball
MATERIALS :
Tennis Ball & Stopwatch
PROCEDURES
1. Throw the tennis ball vertically upward in the air as hard as
you can in an open space
2. Ask your partner to take the time the ball remains in the air
use Table 17 for your data
3. Calculate the initial velocity you gave to the ball using
kinematic equation
( Vf=Vı + gt)
4. Solve for maximum height reached by the ball using ( d=Vı +
t gt²)

Discussion
1. What is the ball’s velocity at it’s highest point?

2. How will you compare the initial velocity with final velocity as the
ball reaches the point of release

Conclusion
What Relationship exist between the initial velocity and maximum
height reached by an object thrown upwards?
