The first batch of the refreshed 2020 Honda CR-V starts appearing at US dealerships this month, boasting
an even sportier styling, updated features and upgraded powertrains.
With the 2020 version of the CR-V, Honda Sensing safety and driver-assist system now comes standard.
Honda’s advanced active safety tech bundle includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian
detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. Also appearing as
standard are automatic high/low beam headlights and idle stop-start engine feature.
Also new across the lineup is a 1.5-L VTEC turbo-four engine that makes 190 hp and 243 Nm of torque.
Despite the smaller displacement, the new engine has 6 hp over the 2.4-L inline-four that it replaces, and
better fuel efficiency to boot.
There’s also a new hybrid-electric variant the first electrified SUV from the Honda brand in America. It
joins the Accord sedan and Insight subcompact as the third electrified Honda produced in the US.
“The Honda CR-V is the best-selling CUV over the past two decades and the updates we’ve made to the
2020 model, including a new hybrid-electric variant, solidify its position as a leader in the compact SUV
market,” said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of Automobile Sales at American Honda Motor
Co., Inc. “The CR-V Hybrid also signifies our direction to bring Honda hybrid-electric technology to all
core models and to invest in the production of electrified vehicles in America.”
The Philippine-market CR-V pretty much mirrors the car’s global version save for the powertrain option,
so it’s safe to expect Honda Sensing and updated styling to appear in the local 2020 CR-V when it
launches here. And with more and more manufacturers introducing electrified models, perhaps we’ll get
the hybrid CR-V as well, fingers crossed.
