According to Roberto Tiglao, there are five things that we can see in Duterte’s kind of

leadership.

The first one is that Duterte is not pretending to be someone else. It means that he

is just showing his true personality even though it is does not good to hear and see

for everybody else. So whatever the people are saying or most of all the

oppositions he still portray that what he is doing is his real self.

The second thing is that it is not important what you say, but what you do.

We can see that he is most of the times careless and tactless in his speeches.

Because of this, he would have easily been the most unpopular president in just

his first year in office. But the people feel he’s doing what he should do – waging

war against illegal drugs that was a menace kept hidden especially by his

predecessor, fighting corruption, building infrastructure, and leading the country

away from the hidden control of America.

Much of Duterte’s popularity is because Filipinos sense that he is rebelling against the

ruling elites that have controlled this nation since its birth.

And lastly, having a strong sense of empathy and showing it. Part of our culture is

the character of pakikiramay and one of the English term equal to it the word

empathy. Empathy is what Duterte expresses as he embraces the widow of a

Marine killed in action, or shakes the hand of a wounded in a military hospital, often

with hazy eyes.

Duterte’s personality has both positive and negative attributes. His harsh and sometimes

careless character in the politics brings many oppositions as well as supporters.
