 WHAT IS SPORTS?

- The sport proposed should include an element of competition.

- The sport should not rely on any element of "luck" specifically integrated into the
sport.
- The sport should not be judged to pose an undue risk to the health and safety of its
athletes or participants.
- The sport proposed should in no way be harmful to any living creature.
- The sport should not rely on equipment that is provided by a single supplier.

- When collating all the world sports for the publication from ancient times to the
present the editors based their inclusion criteria on the following definition:
- An activity can be considered a sport if it involves ...

- competition between two or more individuals or teams;

- rules of play that allow a winner to be determined;
- a primary goal of victory;
- victory determined by the relative physical ability of the competitors, although
strategy and chance may also play a role.

- "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team
competes against another or others"
- “a human activity capable of achieving a result requiring physical exertion and/or
physical skill, which, by its nature and organization, is competitive and is
generally accepted as being a sport.”
- "An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules
or customs and often undertaken competitively".

 WHAT IS TEAM SPORTS?

- A team sport includes any sport which involves players working together towards
a shared objective. A team sport is an activity in which a group of individuals, on
the same team, work together to accomplish an ultimate goal which is usually to
win. This can be done in a number of ways such as outscoring the opposing team.
Team members set goals, make decisions, communicate, manage conflict, and
solve problems in a supportive, trusting atmosphere in order to accomplish their
objectives. This can be seen in sports such as hockey, football, American football,
association football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, water polo, lacrosse, rowing,
rugby league, rugby union, cricket, handball and many others. Every team sport is
different. Some team sports are practiced between opposing teams, where the
players interact directly and simultaneously between them to achieve an objective.
The objective generally involves teammates facilitating the movement of a ball or
similar item in accordance with a set of rules, in order to score points. This usually
involves careful strategic planning, good preparation, and a mental and physical
toughness of each individual that is part of the team. Team sports rely on all of the
players working together equally in order to succeed at the task at hand. Being part
of a team sport requires that each athlete has patience and perseverance since the
goals put forth to accomplish might take some time to meet. This involves a good
deal of dedication, hard work, and good leadership over that span of time.

 MEASUREMENT OF EACH TEAM SPORTS:

BASKETBALL - Basketball sizes vary by age, gender, and level of play.
The official size of the basketball used by the NBA is 29.5 inches in
circumference. That's the same size used throughout men's college and high
school basketball leagues. The WNBA uses a slightly smaller ball,
measuring 28.5 inches in circumference.
VOLLEYBALL - The adult indoor volleyball ball is 65 to 67-centimeters
or 25.5 to 26.5-inches in circumference. They weigh 9.2 to 9.9-ounces or
260 to 280-grams.
RUGBY - A typical length is 100m for the field of play plus the depth of the
ingoal areas at both ends of the field, say 10m each - total 120m. The width
is typically 70m so the area = 120m x 70m = 8400 sq m. A full size pitch
(22m ingoal) would be 144m x 70m = 10080 sq m.
WATER POLO - The dimensions of a water polo field depend on the size
of the pool. Governing bodies such as FINA state that the distance between
the goal lines is 20m-30m for men and 15m-25m for women. The width of
the playing field varies from 10m-20m, depending on the size of the pool.
HANDBALL - The handball court is 40 meters long and 20 meters wide,
and is equally divided by the center line. The goal is 3 meters wide and 2
meters in height.
LACROSSE - Lacrosse Field Dimensions. The exterior measurements of
a lacrosse field is 60 yards wide by 110 yards long. The “wing area” is
marked 10 yards in from the sidelines (20 yards in from the center) of the
field. The Goal is surrounded by a 9 foot radius where players other than the
goalie are not allowed to enter.
BASEBALL - Under the current rules, a major league baseball weighs
between 5 and 5 1⁄4 ounces (142 and 149 g), and is 9 to 9 1⁄4 inches (229–235
mm) in circumference (2 7⁄8–3 in or 73–76 mm in diameter).
FOOTBALL - The length (touch line) has to be minimum 90 metres (100
yds) and maximum 120 metres (130 yds). The width (goal line) has to be
minimum 45 metres (50 yds) and maximum 90 metres (100 yds).
HOCKEY - The pitch on which field hockey is played has a length of 299
feet, 10 inches (91.4 meters) and a width of 180 feet, 5 inches (55.0 meters).
This boundary is marked on the turf and the shorter lines are called
backlines.
