Model 199 DPU Switches in the centerplate is a drive arm pivoted on the end of a sealed
1234567890123456789012345678901212345 torque tube.
The interior of the bellows and centerplate are filled with a clean, non-corrosive, low
freezing point liquid. A free-floating bellows is attached to the high-pressure bellows
to allow for expansion or contraction of the fill liquid, thus providing positive
temperature compensation. If the bellows are subjected to a pressure difference
greater than the differential pressure rating of the unit, a valve mounted on the
center stem seals against its corresponding valve seat. As the valve closes, it “traps”
the fill liquid in the bellows; thus the bellows are fully supported and cannot be
ruptured regardless of the over pressure applied. Since opposed valves are used,
protection against “overrange” is provided in either direction.
Operation M224C DPU Cutaway
Pressure is applied to the high and low chambers surrounding the bellows. Any
difference in pressure causes the bellows to move until the spring effect of the unit balances out for force thus
generated. The linear motion of the bellows (proportional to the DP), is transmitted as a rotary motion through the
torque tube assembly. Continued . . .

Barton Chart Recorders set the standard for ruggedness and reliability, winning wide recognition in the gas industry
because of its overrange protection, immunity to condensation, and ability to maintain calibration even when subjected
to extreme variations in static pressure and ambient temperature. The Models 202E, 202ER, and 208E use the Barton
Model 199 Differential Pressure Unit (DPU) as the actuating unit. The Model 202N uses the Model 199N (NACE) DPU.
• Model 202E — Flow Recorder (DP, P, & Temp.)
• Model 202ER — Reverse Acting version of the M202E (records zero on the outer perimeter)
• Model 208E — Dual DPU version of the M202E
• Model 202N — NACE compliant P/DP/Temp. Chart Recorder with SWP to 2,000 psi
• Model 242E — Temperature and Pressure Recorder-Receiver
• Model J8 — 8-inch Pressure and Temperature Recorder

Barton mechanical switches are responsive to relatively low magnitudes of DP at high static pressures. Actuated by
Barton's Differential Pressure Units (DPUs), they are used to energize alarm or control circuits at predetermined limits
of flow through pipelines, liquid level in pressurized vessels, or pressure loss across devices, such as filters. For
monitoring flow rate, they are used in conjunction with a primary element (e.g., orifice).
Models 289A, 291B, 321A, ITS21, ITS25, ITS27, and ITS31 are actuated by the Model 199 Differential Pressure Unit
(DPU); Models 288C, 290D, 318C, 322C, ITS20C, and ITS24, ITS26, ITS30 actuated by the Model 224C DPU.

Each system consists of a sensor assembly, capillary tubing, and the selected Barton Differential Pressure Unit (DPU).
Capillary tubing provides the hydraulic connection between the sensors and the DPU. Available in any length, the
tubing can be bent, looped, or formed to fit installation requirements.
Each sensor contains a sealed bellows or diaphragm that serves as the
separating member between the process media and the DPU. The sealed-system
is filled with a liquid suitable for the specific application. A complete system can be
used to actuate a wide variety of instruments: controllers, electronic or pneumatic
transmitters, indicators, switches, and recorders —providing either local or remote
continuous control and readout.
Model 351
These systems are self-contained: no floats, levers, pins, or other mechanical
devices to wear or become contaminated — essentially maintenance-free! And,
they are accurate to within ±1%. Model 305
Fill fluids available include: Distilled Water, Ethylene Glycol+Water, Hydrocarbon Oil, Corn Oil,
