The position of store manager is one that I have been preparing for since the beginning of my
time with the company. During my year as assistant store manager, I have developed the
leadership skills that Starbucks radiates as its core virtues. I have coached multiple levels
below me, through the teaching model and coaching in the moment. I have also helped
lead my store’s team to drive survey results up consistently in four areas; customer
connections, order accuracy, speed of service, and cleanliness of store have all gone up by
multiple percentage points since last year.

By leading through helping others to lead, I have successfully trained two shift supervisors and
two baristas in clean play methods to where they are confident leading a play of their own,
and tasks have been completed accurately to their cadences at rates exceeding nearby
stores within our district. Sales of seasonal items have also increased in proportion to their
yearlong menu item counterparts, the result of efforts led by me to engage customers with
routine orders in actively shifting their menu choices with each change in season.

Nurturing the human spirit and creating the third space have come to mean more and more
to me with each level of employment I have had the honor to experience in my four years
with the company. As I move on to shift my focus in managing a store of my own, I am eager
to give back the meaningfulness of all those special moments to everyone on my team, and
to each new partner I hire.
