Dear Drew Beaumont:

My name is Brendan Elgie and I am currently a grade 11 student at Korah Collegiate. I have spent many years
shopping in your store with my family and have always been impressed by the customer service and overall
welcoming environment of the store. I’m passionate about building and carpentry and am knowledge about
sorting lumber according to its grades, markings, and sizes, keeping inventory on stock items, handling tools
and equipment using approved safety procedures and supplying merchandise to customers in an efficient
manner - and so I’m formally applying for a part time position at Lyons Timber Mart.

I have a solid background in sales, stocking, and general customer service, having worked (and still employed)
at businesses such as Lily and Claudia's, Pino’s Get Fresh, Mark’s Work Wearhouse and the Dollar Tree, my
knowledge and training are extensive. I would love to have the opportunity to work at Lyons Timber Mart
and apply my experience to help increase sales and provide a positive customer experience.

I have gained transferable skills that make me an ideal candidate for consideration. My strong interpersonal
and organizational skills allow me to interact with the public in a professional and helpful manner with the
ability to multitask, adapt quickly and work under pressure. At Pino’s Get Fresh I was responsible for opening
and closing the pizza bar, filling telephone orders while cooking, preparing pre-orders and serving customers.
I have proved to take direction and work well independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a
team. As a customer service representative at Mark’s Work Wearhouse I enjoyed helping customers find
what they were looking for, keeping the store organized and assisting my co-workers when needed. I take my
responsibilities seriously and have exceeded expectations during the pandemic keeping my work station
clean at the Dollar Tree and respectfully adhering to all necessary precautions set out by management teams.

My strong computer skills and experience using a wide range of technology allows me to learn new systems
and programs quickly and adapt to changing circumstances easily. I’m confident that I will provide an
immediate contribution to your organization.

I am currently available for all shifts during the week after 3:00 pm and flexible hours on the weekends. I will
be finishing my studies at the end of June and will be able to work any required shifts

Please accept my cover letter and resume as my expressed interest in securing a position within your store. I
look forward to meeting with the Best Buy team to discuss my qualifications further. I am easily reached by e-
mail at brendanelgie@gmail.com and by phone at 705-542-7352. I thank you in advance for your
consideration and look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Brendan Elgie

Work Experience
2021 - ongoing Dollar Tree
I am currently employed at the Dollar Tree located in the Wellington Square mall where for the past few
months I have increased my skills in customer service as well as stocking, cleaning and building suitable
displays for a variety of products. I enjoy working as part of a team which feels more as if it were a family
where we can collaborate and complete tasks efficiently.

2020 - 2021 Co-Operative Placement

During my highschool education I had taken the co-op course where a student is sent to a workplace within
the city to work for the semester instead of formal education. I had taken the semester in my third year to
work at Village Media which is a community run platform that delivers local news to the communities it
serves. I had worked under a sister company by the name of Digital Intelligence Group for four months in
2020-2021 where I had learned transferable technological skills and strong analytical skills. I took pride in
reading analytics and data and creating custom reports for clients that do business with Village Media.

2020 - 2021 Mark’s | Customer Service | Sales | Inventory

I enjoyed serving customers by helping them select products and making suggestions based on their needs. I
drove sales through engagement with customers, suggestive selling, and sharing product knowledge. It was a
pleasure to direct customers by escorting them to racks and counters to ensure I was providing outstanding
customer service. I took inventory, prepared online orders as well as ensured items were neatly displayed
and organized at close to prepare for opening the next day.

2019 – 2020 Pizza Department | Pino’s Get Fresh| Sault Ste. Marie
I had been working in the pizza department for a year preparing food items and providing excellent customer
service. My job duties included mixing ingredients, molding the dough, applying sauce and toppings, and
preparing other foods such as sandwiches and other delicatessen items. Answering the phones to take orders
and ensuring that they were prepared and ready for pick up on time was a task I took pride in. I was trained
to open and close the department and took on extra responsibilities as required.

2012 – 2015 Customer Service | Lily & Claudia's | Mill Market, Sault Ste. Marie
Lily & Claudia's was an independent ice cream shop that was run by myself, my sister and a friend. Our ice
cream shop was open three days a week and the three of us oversaw all areas of the business including:
customer service, cash, inventory, cleaning, opening and closing and adhering to all Algoma Public Health's
rules and regulations.
