Food processing is the transformation of
agricultural products into food, or of one
form of food into other forms. Food
processing includes many forms
of processing foods, from grinding grain
to make raw flour to home cooking to
complex industrial methods used to make
convenience foods. This can implicate
one or a combination of the following:
washing, chopping, pasteurizing, freezing,
fermenting, packaging and many more.
Food processing also handles adding
components to food, for example to
extend shelf life, or adding vitamins and
minerals to improve the nutritional quality
of the food (fortification). Finally you can
keep, feed others or eat food yourself.
