Know your rights:

As an Indian it is important to know your rights as a citizen and the rules and laws that give you
your freedoms. If anyone is in violation of that freedom, you have to confront it.

Exercise your right to vote:

This is a powerful tool and most students don't care about it. Our nation is represented by people
we vote into power. Be aware of it and know that every vote is a representation of the voice of the
people. The outcome may not be to your liking, but it is democracy at work, and that is a beautiful
thing.

Keep clean:

Not just yourself, but your surroundings. You may not be able to change the people by yourself,
but try to challenge the people you know. Never throw even a candy wrapper by the side of the
street. Hold on to it and dump it in your own bin at home.

Go green:

Try to conserve energy and water as much as you can. Try to eat and buy locally. Try to use
recycled or recyclable materials and stick to your computers and mobile phones as long as you
can, because tech waste is one of the least recyclable waste and also some of the most polluting
waste in the world.

Be Aware:

Be aware of the goings on in your country and the world. Keep abreast of current affairs and read
the news as much as you can.

Play:

Our fitness levels are pathetic and we don't have a sporting culture, which is why we produce very
few good quality sports-persons. Just playing backyard games and sport in school and actually
spending more time playing sport rather than watching them or talking about them will help
considerably.

Donate:

Money, time anything. Whatever you spend on temples, churches, mosques and religious
ceremonies in a year, send to one of the many NGO's like CRY, Helpage etc, or to UN based funds
or to Government funds like the PM's relief fund. It is tax deductible and is much more effective
in helping our nation. Billions of our money and huge tracts of land are locked in religious trusts
that hoard wealth rather than share it with the less fortunate. Is that a noble thing to do?
Question:

Question all conventions and rules, but do not violate them without a solid and rational reason.
You need to understand the rationale behind rules and conventions rather than follow them blindly.

Respect the law:

Corruption exists because we try to violate the law. If we stop paying people to do their job, they
will stop expecting to be paid for it. We are the cause for most problems and we can only stop it
by looking within our own failings. Respect the law even if you don't think the cops or
government officials are corrupt. Humans are fallible, it helps to remember that. Respect the
traffic rules. By being a dick on the road, you are inconveniencing a lot of people. That is selfish
and rude. Don't think that your convenience is above everyone else on the road, that is being a
dick. You are just another annoying idiot to them.

Respect yourself:

Respect your own body and control the crap you ingest. Mainly, understand our dietary needs and
what our bodies are used to. Processed foods are much much worse for our bodies than anything
fried we eat at home. Stop eating packaged foods and eat your favourite foods made at home. You
can get recipes off the web and it can be fun and delicious. Do not smoke, it causes severe damage
to you and to your kids. Drink in moderation and stick to the good stuff.

Personal hygiene:

You sweat and that stinks. Be aware of it. You don't need to douse yourself in deos, they clog up
your pores. Use a perfume and Sparingly. Invest in a good soap, a good razor and groom yourself
a little. Mosturise, it may sound girly (if you are a guy), but it goes a long way. Floss, it helps keep
your gums and teeth in good shape for longer. Cut your nails regularly, it projects a better image.
Clean your shoes, it is one of the first things people notice.

These are some things that you can do to help your nation. The way you project yourself to the
world is important, because people make assumptions on your nation based on your behaviour.
