SATISFACTION IN SCHOOL CANTEEN: ITS CONNECTION TO BUDGETING

TECHNIQUES OF STUDENTS IN PHILIPPINE WOMEN’S COLLEGE

INTRODUCTION

The satisfaction in school canteen should provide the students variety of foods
and dishes that enhance their skills and knowledge. Schools are encouraged to
implement comprehensive programs for health and wellness, including food and
nutrition education. The establishment and operation of school canteen is important
in developing love and interest in buying nutritious and healthy food among students,
faculty and the school personnel, making it possible for them to enjoy nutritious and
healthy food at affordable prices during the school day. (Norman Raotraot Galabo,
2019)

One of the student's needs is their food and we all know that food can also
dangerous to students especially to its nutritional values that barely affect the
student’s diet and many schools sold healthy foods and beverages, high in fat and
added sugars. A canteen is a place where food is to be served and eaten, where
different snack and drink products are sold. School canteens are in a good position
to endorse clean and healthy food because it is essential that food is properly
handled and prepared to keep it fit for health and it t should also be served in clean
dishes and food required to be served hot should be kept hot, and the food required
to be served cool should be kept cool.

In this life, budgeting is even more important. The lack of cheat codes and the
general importance of having enough money to eat mean you need to have a little bit
of budgeting competence. Budgeting is the one that comes to most peoples' mind
first. You need to list your income, expenses, and find the difference. (Paula Pant,
2019)

Families are suffering enough, with financial burdens such as mortgage,

household bills and school fees. This puts a financial strain on families, as every
child loves to buy something from their school canteen. Due to the price hikes, the
number of students who buy from the school canteen is dramatically decreasing,
because students will refuse to buy expensive foods from the canteen, but they
would rather bring their own recess and lunch for them to save their money.

This study will determine the level of satisfaction in school canteen and
budgeting technique of students in Philippine Women’s College of Davao because it
is essential to determine the student's perception to the canteen facilities and how
student’s budget or spend their money in terms of buying food.

METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN

A method of research that relies on measuring variables using a numerical

system, analyzing these measurements using any of a variety of statistical models,
and reporting relationships and associations and associations among the studied
variables. The researchers will use a descriptive-correlational type of research. The
descriptive method will be used to determine the Satisfaction in school canteen and
the Budgeting Technique of students. The correlational method will be used to
determine if there is a significant relationship between the satisfaction in school
canteen and the budgeting technique.

RESEARCH RESPONDENTS

The respondents of this study will take a sample of 50 students from chosen
through random sampling. The students will be taken from Grade 12 ABM senior
high students from Philippine Women’s College of Davao, University Avenue Juna
Subdivision, Davao City, 8000 Philippines. An informed consent will be included in
the survey to protect their identity as respondents.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The first instrument that we used is our own questionnaire, for us to be able to
collect the data for satisfaction of school canteen and the budgeting technique of
students with a 5 point Likert Scale.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT

This study will use the following statistical treatment:

Paired T-test will be used to determine the significant difference in the level of
Satisfaction of school canteen and the Budgeting Technique of students in Philippine
Women’s College of Davao.

Pearson R Correlation will be used to determine the correlation between

Satisfaction of school canteen and the Budgeting Technique of students in Philippine
Women’s College of Davao.
