1. Introduction:
Stripping is the breaking of adhesive bond between the aggregates surface and the asphalts cement
(binder). As the pavement surface is exposed to different weathering conditions so the stripping is
the most common issue with all the asphaltic pavements. Damage caused by stripping is severe in
nature and has a great impact on the design life of pavement.

Stripping describe the loss of adhesion between the aggregates and binder due to the presence of
moisture in the asphalt matrix. Stripping is a distress mechanisms which produces physical
separation of the asphaltic cement and aggregates.

2. Problem Statement:
Stripping is a common issue with the asphaltic pavement occurs in relation with the different
weathering condition especially in the rainy season when the surface gets enough rain water thus
the pavement deteriorate due to stripping. So the understanding of stripping process, its
mechanisms and its causes is important to take preventive measures. This paper focus on the
mechanisms and causes of the stripping and the preventive measure to be used against that
mechanisms.

3. Project Objective:
The aim of this study is to understand the stripping process and the mechanisms involved in this
process the causes and the preventive measure to reduce the stripping of pavements.

4. Literature Review:
Stripping is a distress mechanisms which produces physical separation of the asphaltic cement and
aggregates produced by the loss of adhesion between the asphalt cement and aggregate surface
primarily due to the action of water or water vapors. The stripping is accentuated by the presence
of aggregate surface coatings and smooth aggregates surface texture. [[1]]

Preliminary evidence of stripping of asphalt pavement mixtures often occurs as such as patch
bleeding, or flushing and localized in stability. Localized flushing occurs when stripped asphalt
cement rises to the surface of the pavement, producing localized shiny areas of asphalts. This
bleeding is not necessarily confined to the wheel paths but randomly distributed across the
pavement. [[2]]
The stripping involves the detachment which is the separation of an asphaltic film from an
aggregate surface by a thin layer of water, with no obvious break in the asphalt film. [[3]]

To reduce the stripping of the asphalt pavement use the specified density methods to ensure proper
uniform compaction of HMA paving. [[4]]

5. Research Methodology:

1. Field Study:
The practical study in the field of the pavements having the issue of the stripping.

2. Research Study:
This is the study of the research done in the past and ongoing research work.
