Comments

Obesity is associated with increase in serum concentration of several parameters. For an average
increase of 7.3 % in body mass index, Cholesterol total concentrations increase by 2.5 %, LDL
cholesterol by 3 % and Triglycerides by 18.2 %. Glucose tolerance is also impaired in obese
individuals.

Leptin is a vital signaling factor regulating body weight homeostasis and energy balance . It’s
production is under neuro-endocrine control and the serum concentrations vary directly with the
amount of triglycerides stored in fat depots. Most obese humans have increased leptin
concentrations . It is a gastrointestinal regulatory peptide that controls appetite.
