c. Secure approved cutting and bending schedule from the engineer in charge specifying the
diameter, length, quantity and the purpose of the reinforcements to be cut.

Execution

a. Cut and segregate the steel reinforcement according to the cutting schedule.
b. Bending should be done by cold bending and according to relevant drawing and bending
schedule.
c. Safety should always be bear in mind in operating the cutting and bending machine.
d. Reinforcement, once cut and bent, shall be stored in the lay down area or on off ground supports
and shall only be transported to the work area when required. All bars will be tagged as per the
bending schedule.
e. All scrapped or unused reinforcement shall be stored in a central area before being removed from
site. In general, no loose or scrap reinforcement shall be left in / around the work areas.
f. Place steel reinforcement according to the position and location shown in the drawings. Secure
the intersections and positions of the reinforcement using approved ties.
g. Use appropriate concrete spacers to attain the required concrete protective cover for each
structure. Concrete protective cover for reinforcement shall be as follows, unless otherwise
shown on the drawings:

Location Cover
1. Foundations cast against soil 75mm
2. Foundations cast against blinding 50mm
3. Retaining walls, basement walls, and water retaining structures 50mm
4. Beams and Columns (not exposed to soil and water) 40mm
5. Walls and Slabs (not exposed to soil and water) 30mm

h. Splice steel reinforcement according to position shown on the drawing. Reinforcement splices
