1. What were your responsibilities and duties while at practicum?

One of the duties that were assigned to me is to encode all the past members’ policy envelopes (PEs), this
includes their claims against GSIS. I am also responsible to assist my immediate supervisor (also my
training officer) in some of her tasks. This includes, but not limited to, the following: Filing of records,
receiving documents, and some minor duties.

2. What new skills and knowledge did you learn while in practicum?

*Copied from competencies gained*

I believe my devotion to work has helped me gain a few key competencies that I can use in the
near future. These are the following:

Dealing with people – During my stay at GSIS, I learned that there is more than what meets the
eye in the workplace. I met different kinds of people and I learned to deal with different
personalities without compromising my work.

Teamwork – They say, no man is an island. True. I learned that you have to consider your
officemates in dealing with team effort.

Focus – My job at the said company requires me to have a great amount of focus. I gained this
competency on a gradual manner.

Communication – I learned that communication is never one sided, communication includes

speaking and listening. Whenever I encounter a problem, I communicate it with my training
officer or to my other officemates. I also listen to them when they need me, or my help whichever
the case is.

Analytical Thinking – Sometimes, you can solve a problem by your own. I would like to believe
that my experience as a trainee helped me leverage this competency because this can be very
useful in any situation.

Initiative – I learned that I need to know what needs to be done and that I should do it even
without anyone asking me to.

Self-confidence – I also believe that my experience helped me improve my self-confidence. This

was through constant interaction with other employees and trainees.

Punctuality – Due to the nature of my working schedule, I believe that I work and attend on a
timely manner. This is very important as to the company and also a statement to all that practices
the “Filipino-time”.

In addition to the competencies I gained during the course of the practicum, I also gained knowledge of
the nature of the company, the Government Service Insurance System, the services it offers, and its
objectives. This is inherent to the goal of the practicum.
3. Give three different types of skills or knowledge you learned in your previous classes that you were
able to apply during practicum.

(Sorry, Alec, I can’t answer this one for you for I have not attended your classes. Lol)

4. Describe any problem or concern you experienced while at your practicum site.

One problem I would like to point out is that the job assigned to me is quite routinary. It gets boring and
redundant sometimes and it can affect my performance at a certain point. Any other concern is very much
minor and considerable. Overall, the benefits of the practicum outweigh the cost.

5. What suggestions do you have to improve the practicum experience?

If I were to give a suggestion, it is about the work that is assigned to me. Maybe they can have given me
more duties and tasks to further improve my skills and to prove that I have much more to offer. But
learning doesn’t stop here.

6. Identify two strengths and two suggestions as to how your supervisor might have further enhanced
your learning experience.

The strengths include my supervisor being warm and approachable. She helped me in my work-related
concerns, not to mention, also academically having talked to my instructor about my on-the-job training.
Another thing is that she cares for us, the trainees, she’s just not there to give commands but she also
gives attention to our well-being.

As for the suggestions, as stated above on number 5, she can have given me more tasks and duties that
will further out my skills and knowledge of work. I have so much more to offer but I was limited to my
duties. Another thing, maybe she can strengthen the bond with her trainees have she talked to us more.
But she keeps herself busy as she has a lot of work to do so it is understandable.
