Writing Skill
Basic writing skills are Handwriting, Spelling, Punctuation and
sentence construction.
Writing is a complex and purposeful act of communication that is
accomplished in a variety of time with a variety of language
resources and technologies.
Writing skills are specific abilities which help the writers put their
thoughts.
It is an ability to write correct sentences and pronounced correct
words and grammar.
It is an ability to read and write the phases and paragraph without
doing any mistakes.

Story Construction
The teacher gives the topic of any idea or thoughts to the students.
The students write a story on the topic which is given by his
teacher.
Fluency Writing
a) The picture story
Students are shown a picture sequence and told to write about it.
Students are told that they are going to do some free writing within
a certain time limit.
When the time limit expires the teacher stops the students and
collects the work.
Writing reports and advertisements
b) The news broadcast
The class discuss what makes a successful advertisement.
The class is divided into groups. They are told their tasks is to
select a product and write an advertisement for it which will
appear in magazines.
When they done their work. Alternatively they can be given a
period of time to design the artwork for their text. The
advertisement can then be pinned to class notice board.

Descriptive Writing
Expository Writing: The most common types of writing skills.
Expository writing usually explains something in a process.
Expository writing firmly concentrates on advising or explaining
things. I.e. Textbook writing.
Persuasive Writing: Opposite to the expository writing, it states the
opinion, justification, explanation and a point of view of the writer
and attempts to convince the reader. I.e. complain letters, Editorial
page.
Narrative Writing: Narrative writing style, simply narrates a story to
the readers. This writing style likewise uses creative writing – use of
imagination and creativity.
For example: Novels, Short stories, Poetry and so on.
Narrative writing often has situations like actions, motivational events,
emotions, problems and their solutions etc.
Descriptive Writing: This writing style generally describes a lot
more then remaining styles. Thus descriptive writing’s main purpose
is to describe and describe. It is used to create a vivid picture of an
idea, place or person. It is much like painting with words.
I.e. Poetry, Dairy writing and so on.
The Writing Process
PREWRITING: Think and decide
Make sure you understand your assignment. See research papers or
essays.
Decide on a topic to write about.
Consider who will read your work. See audience.
RESEARCH (If needed): Search
List places where you can find information. See doing research.
Do your research.
Make an outline to help organize your research.
DRAFTING: Write
Put the information you researched into your own words. See
Paraphrase and Summary
Write sentences and paragraphs even if they are not perfect
Write some more. See incorporating references.
Read it again.
Write some more.

Write until you have said everything you want to say about the topic.
REVISING: Make it better
Read what you have written again.
Rearrange words, sentences or paragraphs.
Do more research if you think you should?
Replace over used or unclear words.
Read your writing aloud to be sure it flows smoothly.
EDITING AND PROOFREADING: Make it correct
Be sure all sentences are complete.
Correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
Change words that are not used correctly or are unclear.
Make sure you are using the appropriate style formatting.
Strategies to Improve Writing skills
Daily dairy writing may improve our writing skills.
Daily writing an essay on any topic may improve our writing skill as
well as creative skills.
Reading a passage from book and write it in your own words.
Read a good writer’s book and try to copy his/her writing style.
Practice writing simple letters to improve writing as well as
communicative skill.
Speaking or reading stories, novels, essays and paragraphs may also
help to improve our writing skills.
