Philosophical Chairs

Directions
1. After discussing the sources with your group of four, the whole class
will meet at the front of the class
2. Next, I will pose a question. Was poor planning or the geography of
Gallipoli the reason why the allies lost?
3. Next, Students who believe that poor planning was the reason will go
to the left side of the classroom, geography to the right.
4. Both sides will present their arguments, you must use excerpts from
the texts and you can also use the PowerPoint and text book from
additional information.
5. After your turn, two members on your side must speak before you can
speak again.
6. You must address the ideas of the opposing side (for example: I
disagree with that idea because________________________)
7. If you feel the other side has put up a better argument, you can switch
to their side.

When we close and you return to your seats, with the arguments you’ve
heard, you will write a 5 sentence summary discussing if Gallipoli was
doomed to fail from the beginning?
