Canada

By Landon Jarvis
Location/Geographic Location:
Canada lies in North America, taking up much of the continent. The country
shares land borders with the United States and the U.S state of Alaska. Canada
reaches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Canada is one of the
most sparsely populated countries, with a population density of 3.5 people per
square kilometre. The population is condensed close to the borders with the
US. Canada has a panoply of various geoclimatic regions. It also covers huge
amounts of maritime terrains, housing one of the longest coastlines at a length
of 243,042 kilometres. In the north, ice dominates the land whereas in the
south, prairies and lowlands cover the continent. Canada is home to the
Appalachian Mountains which extends from Alabama and finishes at the Gaspe
Peninsula. The range creates hills which are indented by the river.

Language and how it came to be spoken there:

French is an official language, despite the fact that many people in Canada
don’t speak it. The majority of people who speak French as their first of second
language live within the borders of Quebec. Only about 10 percent of the
population who lives outside Quebec can speak French fluently of know
French. However, the first and most widely used language is English. Mandarin,
Cantonese and Punjabi are secondary languages that aren’t too popular.

French became an official language of Canada under the Official Languages Act
on September 9, 1969. The act gave the French and English equal status in the
government of Canada. This is why both languages are equal in the services
that the government controls today. This also includes the French courts.
Is the country Independent of France?
Back in the past, the French and the British both laid claims to parts of what is
now Canada. When Canada was formed, it still relied heavily on British
dependence. In 1866, Canadian representatives travelled to London to have a
meeting with the government. On July 1st, 1867, the Dominion of Canada was
established. However, it was in 1931 that Canada declared itself independent
from the British. Canada still remains independent today and continues to use
the French language.

Activities:
In Canada, agriculture and industry is widespread. Canada’s industrial specialty
is logging and oil. These two components are needed all over the world, so
Canada specialises in expanding and generating better industrial companies for
these products. As well as that, the country has a sizeable manufacturing
sector which is based on automobiles and aircraft. Transport is used
everywhere, and Canada has to keep up with standards by making improved
versions of automobiles.

Canada’s agriculture activities consist of selling oil, wheat and other edibles.
The largest agricultural farms are found in the Prairie region. These farms excel
in growing crops that produce oil seeds (canola oil). Canada’s industrial and
agricultural activities have increased every year since World War 2. The
standards of the activities have changed a lot as well.
