1. Objective: Students will demonstrate past simple verbs and decide on proper answer to
questions.

using simple sentences.

Anchor Standards for Speaking and Listening: Comprehension and Collaboration, (1) Prepare
for and participate effectively in a range of conversations and collaborations with diverse
partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.

5. Scaffolding (building on strengths):
Students already know past tense and know who to create simple sentences in past. They will be
ready to create connected sentences to describe a series of events.
6. Review: Review flashcards of verbs in past to remember conjugation.
7. List the following:
Vocabulary. Vocabulary will be presented during the class based on the students’
knowledge.
Materials Diary, cd player, speakers, posters, fake birthday cake, oven toy set, clay,
round pans, candles, ball.
8. Teach the Material:
Set the environment previously: Play baroque music the entire class:

Set the seats in a semi-circle.
Conduct a meditation activity with a mantra (5 minutes). Repeat the following phrases: “I
can learn English, I can understand English, I can speak English.”
Give the students the following story in past:
First Concert reading. Teacher starts to act out each sentence using the material prepared
for each sentence while reading the lecture. The teacher takes care of the pronunciation
and puts special attention to show the vocabulary related to the objects and the scene. (15
mins).
9. Guided Practice: Teacher asks the student to stand up. The teacher throws a ball to a student
who will read the first sentence, the student will act it out. Then the teacher throws the ball to a
second student who will read the next sentence and act it out. Again, the teacher will throw the
ball to a third student and will do the same and the activity will repeat until the last sentence is
read and acted out. The teacher will guide the students to pronounce accurately. Music must be
still on while doing the activity. (20 mins)
10. Independent Practice: The teacher will make groups of 3-4 students. Each group will have
the following questions to answer. One student will ask the question to a student, then the student
asked will answer. Then the student asked will make the next question to the next student in the
group. The new student asked will answers and repeat the process until all questions are
answered. (10 mins)

12. Formative Assessment: The teacher can listen to the pronunciation and sentence reading
during the guided and independence practice, making spelling and pronunciation corrections. As
well, the teacher will assess the students in the question-answer activity by selecting a question
and asks it to a student, the student have to answer.
13. Summative Assessment: The teacher will play a recording of the story and the students
will do a Fill in the Gaps drill. They will assess their answers by listening to the recording twice
more. At the end of the recording plays, the students will check their answers.
14. Closure: Teacher will quickly review the verbs in past tense and their pronunciation. The
teacher will review the questions asked and their answers. (5 minutes)
