Team ZW3D
Preface

ZW3D CAD/CAM is the one of the first all-in-one CAD/CAM software, which provides the seamless integration
between CAD and CAM by sharing the same database. With the advantage of the Intellectual priority Over-drive
kernel developed by ZWSOFT, besides solid modeling and surface modeling, ZW3D is able to provide the hybrid
solid-surface modeling, which provides great flexibilities in modeling. Typically, ZW3D is able to use the same
command for solid or surface features. With the power of the built-in CAM, ZW3D is able to provide 2~5X
manufacturing solution, besides simple work flow of CAM, huge potential can be explored, including rest material
milling, tool path editor, etc.

This manual covers sketch design, solid modeling, 2D sheet, wireframe and surface modeling, as well as assembly
design. And it focuseson showing the detailed features through typical examples.

Chapter 1 introduces the work flow of the sketching, which covers sketch and constraints.
Chapter 2 introduces the shape modeling through a simple example.
Chapter 3 introduces the 2D documentations.
Chapter 4 introduces the wireframe creation and surface modeling through a few typical cases, which starts to
draw from wireframe and then generate to surfaces. Furthermore, it introduces a few unique morphing features
of ZW3D.
Chapter 5 covers the whole assembly procedure, including alignment of components, management of component,
as well as explosive view.

Milestone of ZW3D
• 1986, One of the first commercial pc-based solid modeler
• 1999, The first version of Hybrid modeling product was released
• 2002, Named Golden product by NASA
• 2012, ZW3D achieved up-to 10 times faster graphic performance
• 2014, The 18th release of ZW3D is available with faster CAD and greater CAM

Fixed as follows.

218
Assembly Design Chapter 5

5.3 Add constraint

5.3.1 Since all of the components are inserted at the same position, it is not easy to add the constraint to them at
correct position. Therefore let’s first move them to a suitable position as follows.

219
Assembly Design Chapter 5
5.3.2 Add constraint

Add a concentric constraint to the Clamp arm and the left side frame as follows.

After you choose 2 entities, ZW3D will animate the align process and then you can get the following result.

◆ Note: Don’t confirm or exist the command at this moment, since ZW3D allows you to keep on going.

220
Assembly Design Chapter 5

Keep on clicking on the side face of Clamp arm and the left side of frame. Then you can continue to add a face to
face coincident constraint as follows.

You will find after picking the Opposite option. The Clamp arm will move to align the left side frame’s side face.

◆ Note: Don’t close or say ok to this command since you can keep on going.

Add the same constraint to the Handle.

221
Assembly Design Chapter 5

Result:

Keep on adding face to face coincident constraint by clicking the side of faces of their continually as follows.

222
Assembly Design Chapter 5

After you add the constraint it will be like the following result:

◆ Note: So far you are still using the same align command.Pay attention to your mouse in case
confirm it. Next we will keep on adding constraint to other components based on this command.

Constrain the link to the arm and Handle as follows.

223

236
Assembly Design Chapter 5

5.10 Create an exploded view

237
Assembly Design Chapter 5
5.10.1 The exploded view will ask you to add steps to show the exploded process as follows.

5.10.2 And then keep on moving other component in the same method to finish adding 5 steps for this exploded
view.

◆ Note: During adding steps to create an exploded view, the constraints will not work as normally
temporarily.

5.10.3 After finishing these 5 steps, go to the assembly manager again and then you can find a configure for exploded
view will be added as follows.
