Executive Summary
Cooperative
A Cooperative is an autonomous and duly registered association of persons, with a common
bond of interest, who have voluntarily joined together to achieve their social, economic and
cultural needs and aspirations by making equitable contributions to the capital required,
patronizing their products and services and accepting a fair share of risks and benefits of the
undertaking in accordance with the universally accepted cooperative principles.
The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) is the lead government agency mandated by
virtue of Republic Act No. 9520 (Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008) to promote the viability
and growth of Philippine cooperatives. It is the only government agency that registers
cooperatives.
Objectives and Goals of a Cooperative:
The primary objective of every cooperative is to help improve the quality of life of its
members. Towards this end, the cooperative shall aim to:
1. Provide goods and services to its members to enable them to attain increased income,
savings, investments, productivity, and purchasing power, and promote among themselves
equitable distribution of net surplus through maximum utilization of economies of scale, cost-
sharing and risk-sharing;
2. Provide optimum social and economic benefits to its members;
3. Teach them efficient ways of doing things in a cooperative manner;
4. Propagate cooperative practices and new ideas in business and management;
5. Allow the lower income and less privileged groups to increase their ownership in the
wealth of the nation; and
6. Cooperate with the government, other cooperatives and people- oriented organizations to
further the attainment of any of the foregoing objectives.

VISION
Calicanto Senior Citizens Multi-Purpose Cooperative envisions to be an organization that
has the natural ability to develop a self-sufficient community, to raise the livelihood of each and
every member of the community within its jurisdiction.

MISSION
Being faithful with this vision, Calicanto Senior Citizens Multi-Purpose Cooperative
provides livelihood programs and helps the members of the community through effective and
efficient system of the cooperative such as educating them about the importance of savings,
training them in business management with the cooperation and coordination of every member to
continue raising the standard of living and be responsive to the needs of the community.

HISTORY
Calicanto Senior Citizens Multi-Purpose Cooperative was founded on April 18, 2001.
Starting with 10 members who were senior citizens, they founded a pharmacy and later on, with
their continuous effort, they were able to expand into a multi-purpose cooperative. For the past 18
years, they were able to provide a lot of help and assistance to their members.

ABOUT THE BUSINESS


Calicanto Senior Citizens Multi-Purpose Cooperative aims to offer full range of high quality
credit, consumer and marketing services. Credit Cooperative is one that promotes and undertakes
savings and lending services among its members. It generates a common pool of funds in order to
provide financial assistance and other related financial services to its members for productive and
provident purposes; Consumer Cooperative is one the primary purpConsumer Cooperative is one
the primary purpose of which is to procure and distribute commodities to members and non-
members; and Marketing Cooperative is one which engages in the supply of production inputs to
members and markets their products.

With the Calicanto Senior Citizens Multi-Purpose Cooperative’s continuous goal to help
improve the quality of life its members and in furtherance thereto shall aim to institutionalize a
dynamic savings mobilization, to provide economic benefits to its members, to propagate
cooperative practices in business management, to allow less privilege group to increase their
ownership in the wealth of nation, to advance economic, social and educational status of the
members, ro encourage self-help as engine for economic growth and poverty alleviation, to
actively support the government in promoting cooperative as a means towards sustainable social
economic development under a just and democratic society, to adopt other plans as may help
foster the welfare of the members, their families and community, and to be the voice and
institution of the poor and the excluded in the resisting growth-centered development aggression
and instead promote people-centered development.

Attended by the Board of Direct, the General Manager, Branch Managers of different
branches and employees, ceremonial cutting of the ribbon and office blessing was conducted to
celebrate the opening. Currently it is headed by Mrs. Marina B. Garcia, the general manager.

Current Size
The cooperative is composed of 33 members. (1 General Manager, 1 Bookkeeper, 1
Treasuer, 1 Secretary, Board of Directors and 7 different committees.
