Abstract

H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant Seals is an innovative way to seal to-go food when

ordering from delivery services through reliable and convenient seals that will give the

customers ease-of-mind. Our technology makes it easy for the drivers to seal the food and make

it to the customers in a timely manner. Many times, students and other clients don’t notice that

there has been some sort of tampering with their food, whether it be the environment it is

traveling in or the driver actually eating the food during transport. This innovations would make

it so the customer is aware that it hasn’t been tampered with, making it clear to the customer that

their food is safe to eat. While there are many products out there that are said to do the same

thing, none are done in conjunction with the various food delivery systems. This is a key aspect

for our company and incorporating contracts with these delivery services is a big goal for us.

This will ensure that our product will continue to be in use and spread awareness to these

companies that more would use their services if they had a product like ours on hand.

H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant Seals
Proposal Narrative

Technology and Value proposition

Our innovation team has come up with a new way to ensure that food delivery services

are unable to tamper with costumer’s food while in transport. We have created a sticker seal to

wrap around food packaging so that food delivery drivers are unable to mess with, open up, or

eat your food! This simple, yet effective design is intended for restaurants that are partnered with

food delivery services to wrap our sticker seal around your to-go box before they are given to the

drivers. We have designed reinforced seals that incorporate fibers along the adhesive backing to

prevent tampering or tears. Based on our research via survey we have concluded it would be

beneficial for our company to beta test our product at the University of Alabama campus. These

students participated in our survey and are the optimal test subjects for our sticker seals.

H.M.M.M. tamper resistant seals use innovative fibers to ensure a strong bond between

the package and the seal. To ensure that the sticker is not pealed up and placed back down, we

have designed our product to have perforations every two inches in the sticker tape. The

perforations will allow customers to know if the sticker has been broken, removed, or tampered.

The seals will come to patented logos that will be given to all restaurants partnered with food

delivery services. Rolls of sticker tape will be given solely to the restaurants so that drivers do

not have access to extra seals. The restaurants will seal off a costumer’s food order before it is

given to the drivers. This design ensures that drivers are not able to replicate or have extra

stickers which would allow them to replace original stickers on sealed food.

4
Our team believes that our technology will be superior to other similar product

prototypes. Compared to sealing bags, our product is more cost effective as well as being more

consumer and environmentally friendly. Our sticker cost per role is minimal which is a beneficial

investment for food delivery services to purchase to make sure their business functions at

maximum efficiency. We are confident that food delivery services will chose to purchase our

sticker seals to give to their partnered restaurants so that their business does not decline with

poor costumer reports of drivers eating their food. We believe this will even boost food delivery

company’s business as their costumers gain confidence in the quality of the food service.

Business Model and Market

The use of delivery services is becoming more and more prevalent with the development

of apps that suit these needs. Whether it be through Amazon’s grocery delivery services or

through one of the many food delivery apps, having food delivered and the convenience of this

has been on the rise for the last few years. The H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant Seals is user

friendly and specifically designed to keep food from being contaminated during transport.

H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant Seals is a company striving to create a better option of safety

among food delivery services in and around Tuscaloosa. The visionaries that have put forth this

project urge the companies to adopt the idea, ensuring the customers have a pleasant experience

when using their particular company. This would put the customers mind to ease when ordering

from them and ensure that they would keep using the service. It would also give companies a

way to stand out from other delivery services by offering security. It will also protect drivers of

these companies from accusations of tampering by their customers. H.M.M.M. Tamper

Resistant Seals would like to propose a tamper resistant seal made of reinforced packing tape to

further prevent tampering of food during deliveries.

5
Our team believes that our product is perfect for delivery services because it brings

customers the satisfaction of knowing their food has not been tampered with. H.M.M.M.

Tamper Resistant Seals is uniquely made to be strong enough to provide security, but fragile

enough to show evidence of tampering. Though there are many products that are said to do the

same thing, by having reinforced packing tape as our base and perforations every 2 inches, our

design makes the seal much harder to break without ripping the perforation. Our tape is designed

to come in rolls, which can be wrapped securely around any sized box or bag. Since the delivery

services are buying the stickers, the cost of delivery will only marginally increase for the

costumer. This will make delivery services still an affordable option for the busy college

student.

H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant Seals is requesting a $20,000 grant to equip the service

offered around The University of Alabama with reinforced packing tape stickers to promote a

safer way to order food? That will improve the lives of the college kids already using these

services. Our team believes that H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant Seals is a revolutionary product

that will spread throughout these companies to further protect other cities and towns. While there

are other products like this on the market, we believe that none have made it this readily

available to the service companies in order for them to distribute them to their drivers and start

putting them to use. Our product is going to be marketed directly to the companies as something

they can directly distribute to those who will be transporting food. H.M.M.M. Tamper

Resistant Seals plans to use the VentureWell grant to initially buy one (1) HP DesignJet T730

Inkjet Large Format Printer (latex printer) for $3000, a Laser Point 3 ARMS Contour Cut Vinyl

Cutter with Vinyl Master Cut Software for $650 to cleanly cut the product, a patent for our

technology costing around $10,000 since we have elected to get a patent attorney, and finally the

6
tamper resistant seals cost around $1.96 per roll and each roll has about 110 yards (3960 inches),

we would start with an initial trial run of three companies and provide them with 10 rolls costing

$58.80. The remaining $7000 will go towards paying our employees for their labor and forming

further partnerships with the delivery companies. Once the tamper resistant seals are placed on

the market, we expect that the number of people who use the services will go up significantly.

In a recent study done at The University of Alabama, 50% of college students reported

using food delivery services. Of this group, 89% reported that they would feel more comfortable

using delivery services if they utilized tamper resistant seals. H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant

Seals is proposing a one-year deal with the three most popular delivery services as stated by the

survey: Crimson 2 Go, Uber Eats, and Grub Hub. At a low cost of approximately $0.002 per

sticker when buying in bulk, we have agreed to charge customers $0.10 for the sticker to increase

delivery service profits, increase interest in using such services, and still keep the cost of using

these services relatively low for our target audience of college students.

RE: H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant Seals

Summary
As of October 29, my team has created, distributed and analyzed a questionnaire to establish a base of
research for our project and to project the potential opportunities for success at and around The University
of Alabama. We have also began putting together our proposal and look forward to finishing this report
and presenting our innovation and finding for a $20,000 VentureWell Grant.

Discussion
Prior to putting together of proposal narrative, our group put together a ten (10) question questionnaire in
which our team distributed to our peers all around the school to get the best idea of student’s opinion of
our idea. We are happy to report, that according to our results, by implementing our idea around the
campus people would be more likely to use our services. About 84% of the people who took the survey
reported that they would be more likely to use the food delivery services if they had a tamper resistant
seal. Some had some worries that a sticker would not be the most effective way to seal food off, and with
this feedback we were able to make some effective design changes to how the seals should be applied.

With the positive results we got from our survey, we can say with confidence that we believe this product
will be a success in the area we are targeting. With that, we are going to start our proposal narrative with
the assumption of success. We believe that the H.M.M.M. tamper resistant seals will thrive at The
University of Alabama. We plan to move forward with our technology and put everything into effect two-
three months after approval.

Recommendation
The writing of the narrative should be smooth from the start. We have planned how we will be splitting
the work to most effectively put the proposal together. I will be responsible, with Hailey, for putting
together the business model and team report. Hailey is also responsible for getting an accurate budget
together. Mary Beth is responsible for the work plan document and putting together the technology and
value proposition, with Maegan. Maegan is tasked with deciding which questions were important to ask
as well as helping put together the final proposal document. With everyone working on different aspects
of our proposal, this ensures that we will be able to finish in a timely manner, while also being able to
work more thoroughly on our presentation.

RE: H.M.M.M. Tamper Resistant Seals

The purpose of this memo is to update you on the progress we have made regarding H.M.M.M. Tamper
Resistant Seals grant proposal for the $20,000 VentureWell grant.

Summary
My team began this project on October 17 and since then has completed the questionnaire, abstract,
proposal documents, work plan and the appendices. As of today, we have started to put together our final
presentation through google power point so that we will have it complete for our presentation on
Thursday. With this, we are still on schedule, if not ahead of schedule, to present our final project on
Thursday November 7th.

Discussion
So far, the project has been moving at the pace we have wanted it too. Our team is working effectively
together and is periodically knocking off the tasks on our work plan. Today, we worked on getting all of
our proposals together in a single document, while formatting and editing took place. As of October 29,
and my last update, we had put the finishing touches on our proposal according to the results from our
survey. Hailey worked on putting the budget into a sheet, so that it was clear to read and see where the
money would be going to exactly and helped me write the business model and market. Maegan has helped
format and put the document into order throughout the single document and worked with Mary Beth to
put together the technology and value proposition. Mary Beth worked with Maegan putting these together
while also putting the work plan together and putting updates periodically at the bottom. Meanwhile, I
have been working on getting the resumes together and formatted and worked on the abstract of our
proposal.

We completed the proposal narrative on October 29th and began working on the final documentation.
Today was a day of compiling the documents and getting a table of contents together. Mary Beth also
started putting together the power point presentation and shared it with the res of the team so we could
work on the final grant presentation.

Recommendation
Our next phase to complete this project will be to finish our presentation as a team over the next few days
as well as to complete the research document for our proposal. We plan to have this all complete and
deliverable by November 7th so that we will be able to present our grant. Please let us know if you have
any questions about the project or our progress.

Research Document
“Now you can know if your delivery worker is taste-testing your food order.
That's the purpose of new sealed bags from local restaurant delivery service Waitr. Seals added on
restaurant to-go packaging will keep delivery workers and others honest; if the seal (a sticker with the
Waitr logo, as seen up top) is broken, it's a clue that someone was in your order.
The move comes the same week a US Foods survey found that almost 30 percent of food delivery app
workers sample food from an order and even more workers are tempted while transporting food. A strong
85 percent of customers said in that same survey that they wanted "tamper-evident labels" on their
orders.”
