developing the project and people who have willingly helped me
out with their abilities to help me complete this report in limited
time frame.
AIM OF THE REPORT

The aim of the report is to demonstrate the

evolution of space technology in India. It provides a
fair account of the activities of ISRO over the past
years to develop its spectrum of research, its
programmes, its achievements and future plans to
expand the research facilities regarding ‘space’ to
continue the evolution of space technology.
ABSTRACT OF THE REPORT

Space activities in the country were initiated with the setting up of

Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) in
1962. In the same year, work on Thumba Equatorial Rocket
Launching Station (TERLS), near Thiruvananthapuram, was also
started. The Indian space programme was institutionalised in
November 1969 with the formation of Indian Space Research
Organisation (ISRO.

India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scripted history by

launching 104 satellites on the aptly titled 'workhorse' of Indian
space travels, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket, from the
Sriharikota station in Andhra Pradesh.
From time immemorial, mankind has aspired to colonise the
Moon for various reasons. Scientific quest has been the major
impetus for visualising human habitability on Moon, as a transit
base for outer space exploration missions.
For achieving all these motives, ISRO and its predecessors
initiated various missions to accomplish the dreams of exploring
outer space. Of today, what it remains to be proudly said is that
India has taken mighty leaps towards achieving its goals ever
since ISRO has constantly became successful in its missions.
The rapid development of the Indian space program has made
the country proud time and again, and it was through the
concerted efforts of ISRO that such a feat was possible.
