It is likely for a human to be curious and reflective.

It is this stimulus that induces the process of education.

It’s through this education that knowledge is acquired.

Implementation of this knowledge is wisdom, which helps to fulfill human desires.

Outlines, boundaries, dots and other elements of our world have forever captivated my
imagination. I used to think this captivation with our constructed environment was just that, an
attraction to beautiful work. I am applying to the University of XXXX for Fall 2020 admission to turn
this fascination into a lifestyle and profession. Two of the most important factors for application
stem from my desire to positively influence others and to bring the connection to those who feel
unconnected.

My path had been a bit wobbly on the onset and it has infact taken me a detour of a couple
of years to realise that my passion lies in Architecture. At the risk of sounding not clear about my
vision, I would say that these couple of years helped me eliminate my options and arrive at my goal.
It has taken me through different colleges and courses, each of which has uniquely prepared me for
this new challenge.

I have always sought something to create, fully immersing myself into constructing with any
material that I could find during my adolescence. The path I find myself on today, applying to the
University of XXXX, logistically began in 2015. However, I would argue that this path and the interest
and passion for creating started in my early youth. From the moment I could begin expressing myself
creatively, I was doing so through various projects, in art class or bringing my imagination to life
through Lego bricks. I haven’t always pursued what I’m most natural at, but this path has connected
me to the foundations of my natural tendencies.

With the assumption that I would follow the same career path as my elder sibling Sameer
(who completed his bachelor in Engineering in Computer Science from Mumbai University followed
by Masters in Cybersecurity from prestigious Buffalo UNIVERSITY) I headed to Engineering College at
Mumbai University as a means to enter the world of Computer Science. I was not so in tune with
what my genuine talents were. My lack of understanding and my inaccurate reading of my aptitudes
for the first few years had a negative effect on my educational performance. However, coming from
a highly educated family, my parents (Mr. Lachmankumar Masand, B.Sc in Physics and Bachelor and
Masters in Law - practicing Lawyer & a retired professor and my mom Mrs. Madhvi Masand, who
completed Bachelors in Chemistry) helped course correct and gain control over my career path.
Once I began to understand the value of hard work and I studied more closely to my interests, I was
more successful in my academic pursuits; completing my undergraduate work and heading to the
graduate level.

With an internship and two small tenure full-time employment under my belt, I can state
that I have had practical experience with Earthen Construction, Water Recycling, Harvesting, and
Sustainable Technologies while I was interning at Biome Environmental Solutions. During my first
employment at Rollins Arcoustics (An acoustic consultancy), I was exposed to the world of Acoustic
treatments for a design studio and performing arts spaces. My key area was to ideate the space,
design it and to produce execution drawings for the same. Further, I also acted as the
communication bridge between the execution team, clients and the vendors. I was fortunate to have
designed studios and music academies for niche clients to name a few academy award winner A.R.
Rahman’s music academy in Mumbai, famous Bollywood singer - Arijit Singh's personal studio at
Kolkata, famous Tollywood actor Dhanush's personal studio. Furthermore, I was also part of the
conceptualizing team for the scoring stage that will be hosted at Dubai expo2020. At Rollins
Arcoustics, we would measure the space, produce its 3D Acoustic model, study it and specify the
frequencies that need tracking

Although I was headed towards a successful career as an architect after completing my

graduate coursework, my hunger for inner fulfillment continued to grow as I was drifting further
away from my natural tendencies to design and create. One of my most substantial skilled
contributions to this point occurred during this time. In a fast-paced environment of college, I had
volunteered and played an integral role at Dharmalaya designed by DEE DEE Contractor for Earthen
Construction. This experience inspired me to respond in a Vernacular architectural style involving
Earthen Construction and passive, Sustainable Technologies. Strategic planning was done through
interdepartmental collaboration, which showed me the value of working well in association with
others. Practicing collaboration early on paid off well as I stepped into the role of leading the design
team. Managing the needs and interests of varied accomplished celebrities during my employment
at Rollins Arcoustics

After coming to the realization that I had not been utilizing my natural abilities and feeling like I
had untapped potential, I committed to this current process of exploration through intensive
research about higher studies in the domain of architecture. This was truly the awakening that I was
waiting for. An awakening revealing that my natural aptitudes of structural visualization and design
memory could be utilized optimally with the master’s degree in architecture. It validated the fact
that my interests and skills from my youth could be translated into adulthood. Completion of the
assessment sparked a tremendous desire to take my passion for the built environment and to
embark on pursuing a career in architecture armed with a higher degree.

One aspect that has led me to study architecture is that I want to assist others unswervingly and
ultimately through the built environment. The finest path to do this is through designing structures
that help the community and individual. I want to aid build locations that are non-toxic and alluring
for those who will consume the spaces; specifically, for people in low-income populations, office
settings, and schools. I want to create an atmosphere for individuals that stirs their emotions toward
excitement and positivity, rather than dull and mundane.

This brings me to the present. Rather than marinating in past experience, I am looking ahead with
goals of admission to XXXX. There are numerous dynamic aspects that are behind why I want to
formally study the built environment. As evident throughout my story, I yearn to use my naturally
gifted abilities towards finding solutions where a system of interdependent entities makes up for a
cycle of net-zero emissions and probably even consume the existing emissions cleaning up our
sphere

As I close, I hope this has painted a picture of my journey, shown why I want to study at XXXX and
shown that I possess the appetite which will effectively carry me in my educational and skilled
pursuits. Also, I assure you that if given an opportunity, I pledge you my commitment and
meticulousness and my desire to excel would allow me to make a remarkable contribution to the
university. If intelligence can find the precise question, learning and research help find the answer. I
want to seek out for a response to all my queries for I believe “Seek and thou shall find”. Looking
forward to pursuing graduate studies at your esteemed University.
