General Instructions:

1. The question paper comprises of two sections, A and B and all questions are compulsory.
2. There is no overall choice. All questions of section A and B are to be attempted separately.
3. Questions 1 & 2 in section A are one mark questions. These are to be answered in one word or one
sentence.
4. Questions 3 to 5 in section A are two marks questions. These are to be answered in about 30 words
each.
5. Questions 6 to 15 in section A are three marks questions. These are to be answered in about 50 words
each.
6. Question no. 14 is a value based question of 3 marks.
7. Questions 16 to 21 in section A are five marks questions. These are to be answered in about 70
words each.
8. Questions 22 to 27 in section B are on practical based questions. Each question is of two marks.
9. There is an internal choice in three questions of three marks each, two questions of five marks and
Question 23 of section B.

damage due to eating of sweets and chocolates. How can we prevent this damage?

unsaturated hydrocarbon in the presence of nickel as catalyst.

(b) Name the ester which is obtained due to chemical reaction between ethanol and ethanoic acid in the
presence of conc. H 2 SO 4 and write the chemical equation.

18. A) A divergent lens has a focal length of 20 cm at what distance should an object of height 4cm from
the optical centre of the lens be placed so that its image is formed 10 cm away from the lens. Also find the
size of the image.

b) What is meant by power of a lens? What is its S.I unit. How is this unit related to focal length of a lens.(5)

19. (a) How many 176 Ω resistors in parallel are needed to carry 5A current on a 220 V line.
b) Distinguish between the terms electrical resistance and resistivity of a conductor. (5)

a)Heating elements of electrical heating devices are made up of an alloy rather than a pure metal. Give two
reasons.
b) An electric heater is rated at 2 KW. Calculate the cost of using it for 2 hrs daily for the month of April if
each unit costs Rs. 6. (5)

2. Fragmentation and regeneration
(b)List four specific characteristics of sexual reproduction. (5)

21. Draw the structure of a nephron and label the following parts.
a) Bowman's capsule b) Glomerulus
c) Renal artery d) Collecting duct (5)

22. Draw a path of light ray passing through a prism. Label – Angle of incidence and angle of
deviation (2)

23.A piece of granulated zinc was dropped into copper sulphate. What would be observed and why?

24. A gas is liberated immediately with a brisk effervesence when you add acetic acid to sodium
hydrogen carbonate powder in a test tube. Name the gas and describe the test that confirms the
identity of the gas. (2)

25. Draw a schematic diagram of a circuit consisting of a battery of three cells of 2V each, a 5Ω,
12Ω and an 8Ω resistor and a plug key all connected in series.

26. Describe the steps you would follow to study the parts of a gram seed.

27. A student is observing a permanent slide showing sequentially the different stages of asexual
reproduction taking place in yeast. Name this process and draw diagrams of what he observes in a
