GENERAL INFORMATION
The ZALKIN automatic capping turrets are designed to apply aluminium roll-on caps
(carbonated or non-carbonated beverages), plastic or metal pre-threaded caps, press-on
or push-in caps, pourers, stoppers, over caps, stopper caps, rubber plugs, etc…
Our standard supply does not include the centre column (with some exceptions), nor any
starwheels, with the exception of the upper centre starwheel and neck guide in the case
of plastic bottles being handled.
After receipt of the capping turret, a prompt inspection of the case and machine should
be made to determine if any shipping damage has occurred. If so, it is the Purchaser’s
responsibility to initiate a claim against the carrier.
The information supplied in this manual is believed siffcient to explaint how the capping
turret operates, how to adjust and lubricate the important parts, how to change over,
and how to identify and order spare or change parts.
WARNING !
Special case !
In addition to the flanges, sometimes
one scroll ( M 20 ) is installed .
Remove this scroll before lifting the turret

3.1.2 Function
In the LC-unit, a motor driven spindle pushes the lubricant out of the LC-unit.
This moves the piston and builds up pressure in the LC-unit of up to 5 bar
(75psi). The automatic pressure shut-off will turn the system OFF after several
attempts when the pressure exceeds 5 bar.
The size of the LC-unit can be adjusted with “VOL” switches 3+4 of the four-way
code switch on the circuit board.
The desired discharge period can be adjusted with “TIME” switches 1+2.

perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG
Before installing the lubricator, the lubrication points and any extensions must
be adequately pre-lubricated with the same lubricant which is contained in the
perma STAR VARIO.
For this purpose, perma-tec offers a 400g lubricant cartridge for grease guns
(see Chapter 11.1).
Please use a support flange from perma-tec (outer thread G1/4) for the
installation of perma STAR VARIO.
For horizontal mounting positions we recommend the perma STAR CLIP
bracket to hold the lubricator in place.
Do “VOL” switches 3+4 of the four-way code switch in the drive unit match
the correct size of the LC-unit?
Do “TIME” switches 1+2 of the four-way code switch in the drive unit match
the desired discharge period?
Lubrication Systems 10
perma STAR VARIO
Regardless of which option you choose, the operator must check the
setting again and carry out any desired changes before starting the
lubricator (see Chapter 7)!
Pre-lubricate the lubrication point with the same lubricant that is contained
in the perma STAR VARIO (see Chapter 5.1.).
Check if the thread of the perma STAR VARIO (R ¼ ) corresponds to the
thread of the screw point.
Remove the plug from the LC – unit and screw the perma STAR VARIO
into the lubrication point hand-tight. Never screw the lubricator into the
lubrication point a second time, as this may destroy the self-sealing feature
of the thread.
All connecting threads must be additionally sealed with a suitable, standard
sealant. When you use an oil filled lubricator, the lubricator must be
installed vertically (outlet pointing down).
To start the discharge, turn the rotary switch on the cover of the drive unit
from position “OFF” to “ON” (chapter 7.5)
The red LED signal and the running of the motor indicate that the discharging of
lubricant has begun.
Never change the four-way code switch settings while the lubricator is
already in operation, or anytime after starting the operation.
11
perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG
A simultaneous blinking of the red and green LED indicates that the empty
LC-unit must be changed.
Whenever the LC-unit is changed, the battery set must also be replaced.
Otherwise, correct operation of the lubricator cannot be guaranteed.
Since the drive unit and the circuit board must always be protected from
moisture, the exchange must be carried out in a dry place!
Lubrication Systems 12
perma STAR VARIO
The LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are on the circuit board and are visible
through the transparent cover (see picture 2, chapt. 7.2).
The perma STAR VARIO has a red and green LED. The following signals about
operating conditions/ malfunctions are displayed by the LED for the user:

The discharge period of the LC-unit must be set with “TIME” switches 1+2 of the
four-way code switch on the circuit board of the drive unit.
You may set /change the switches with the help of a small screw driver or with
your fingers.
The set discharge period can be marked on the drive system with the enclosed
stickers. The stickers differ in color and number (months) of the discharge
period.
You should note the set discharge period of the lubricator in your Lubrication
and Maintenance Plan (see chapter 11.1)
The size of the LC-unit must be set with “VOL” switches 3+4 of the four-way
code switch on the circuit board of the drive unit.
You may set /change the switches with the help of a small screw driver or with
your fingers.
If the position of the “VOL” switches 3+4 of the four-way code switch does not
correspond to the actual size of the LC-unit, it will lead to malfunctions (see
chapt. 9) caused by incorrect signals of the control unit, and to over- or under-
lubrication.

Changing the discharge period and/or the size of the LC-unit is only possible
when a new LC-unit is attached. In case the settings must be changed during
current operation, i.e. after discharge was started, you must attach a new,
completely filled LC-unit and a new battery set.
Changing of the settings during operation interferes with the controls and
monitoring electronics. Therefore, perma-tec can no longer guarantee precise
lubrication.
Always use a new, completely full LC-unit and a new battery set after each
change of setting. Never use a partially empty LC-unit.

perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG
When placing the order, the user may request a different discharge period
which will be set by the manufacturer.

FAULT CONDITIONS
As a general rule, air supply to the cap feeder should continue for one or two seconds after the machine stops,
and starts one or two seconds before the machine.
Not to follow this rule may be the cause of uside down caps.
The machine PLC must therefore be programmed to meet this timing requirement.

DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
INTRODUCTION - CHARACTERISTICS
The Zalkin company thanks you for your confidence in choosing the sealing Head. The head has
been designed to meet the closure and seal requirements of caps with pilferproof ring.
This manual will enable you to take control of the equipment quickly and efficiently.
• Safety Information :
- Three types of information panels are used in the manual. They draw users' attention to the risks arising from failure
to follow the recommendations they described.
- Some operations are to be performed by suitably trained and qualified persons. They are highlighted with
the heading "Qualified Personnel." Qualified personnel means persons who have the appropriate vocational
training and have passed the relevant qualification and/or accreditation tests.
- The head forms an integral part of the moving parts of the machine: access to the head must be dependent on the
opening of the guard causing an emergency stop.
• Characteristics :
Max throughput per Head 1917 caps per hour (long/ short skirt)
• Components :
The sealing head can operate with «pilferproof» type metal caps which may or may not require a «reformed»
zone.

SETTINGS
B - SIDE PRESSURE
This pressure is measured with a spring scale hooked onto the stem of one of the rollers.
) Keeping a finger on nut to detect any movment, pull the scale gradually
until the arm moves outwards.
Read the pressure from the scale.
Caution : It is recommended setting diametrically opposed the thread rollers to the same
value.

SETTINGS
6) Set skirt rollers as the thread rollers, but by using the lower groove.
Once these settings have been made, remove the setting gauge
and fit the pressure block with its shim, guide bell and the arm
(removed to reach the pressure block).

SETTINGS
Place the bottle under a sealing head and bring the head to its lowest point.
The rollers are then in closed position.
When you slowly release the arm, the roller must touch the cap
just under the knurl (beverage cap) or 3 mm below the bottom
of the groove (Pilferproof type cap with a wad).
When the arm is released, the roller must come just under the
bead and the roller compensating spring must be slightly
compressed.

PRODUCTS DEFECTS
- Non standard adjustments to head pressure or pilferproof rolls to lower the removal torque may produce inadequate sealing
and leakers.
- To obtain effective and reliable closure applications during sustained production runs, it is obligatory to check the capping
from time to time to ensure that satisfactory application is actually being obtained.
- Particular attention should be directed to the top and side seal formation, threading depth, and the pilferproof ring lock.
We recommend a frequent quality check on closure application to verify that machine adjustments are correct.
Additional surveillance is strongly recommended when glassware and/or caps of different inventory or manufacture are to be
used.
- Failure to perform routine checking as described above can result in sustandard applications, leakers, and closure blow-offs.
