Badong Bernal’s exhibit approaches its end

National Artist Salvador Bernal’s art exhibition entitled Badong: Salvador Bernal Designs the

Stage located at the Sining Makiling Art Gallery will end on May 31, Sunday.

A variety of remarkable artworks such as miniature scale models of set and costume designs

were located at the main gallery and a huge tarpaulin-bound timeline of Bernal’s life as an artist

was mounted at D.L. Umali’s lobby.

Among these meticulously-crafted works were Bernal’s world-class set designs such as:

▪ Sa North Dimension Road, 1988, at Tanghalang Huseng Batute in CCP.

▪ Engkantada, 1992, at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo in CCP.

▪ Lapu-Lapu, 1997, at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo in CCP.

▪ Ang Pagpatay kay Luna, 2001, at Tanghalang Pilipino.

▪ and Dalagang Bukid, 1987, at Tanghalang Pilipino.

And intricate designs of costumes used in various productions were also shown such as:

▪ Realizing Rama (a contemporary dance production telling the story of Rama and Sita)

▪ Sa Bunganga ng Pating (a sarsuwela tackling the conflict between loan sharks and their

victims)

▪ and Orosman and Zafira ( a komedya between the Moors and the Christians)

The said exhibit was made to happen through the combined efforts of Office for Initiatives in

Culture and the Arts and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Until now, the exhibition is free to the public and is open from 9 am-5pm, Mondays to Fridays.
