 THE HISTORY OF SOUTH COTABATO

South Cotabato, officially the Province of South Cotabato (Hiligaynon:


Bagatnan Cotabato; Cebuano: Habagatang Cotabato; Maguindanaon:
Pagabagatan Kutawatu; Kapampangan: Mauling Cotabato), is a province in
the Philippines located in the SOCCSKSARGEN region in Mindanao. Its
capital is Koronadal City, and it borders Sultan Kudarat to the north and
west, Sarangani to the south and northeast, and Davao del Sur to the far
northeast. To the southeast lies Sarangani Bay.

Flom’lok Festival

Flom’lok is taken from a B’laan word which means “hunting ground.” The people of
Polomolok celebrate this by showcasing the local products and a mix of socio-cultural
activities. Home to one of the world’s largest pineapple plantations, Polomolok
commemorates its foundation from September 2nd to 16th with true South Cotabato
flair.
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

 KULINTANG-is a modern term for an ancient instrumental form of music


composed on a row of small, horizontally laid gongs that function melodically,
accompanied by larger, suspended gongs and drums.
 FAMOUS ARTIST
EMMANUEL NIM. Emmanuel Nim was born in
Polomolok, South Cotabato near General
Santos City, on June 2, 1981. He developed an
interest in art and a taste for figures and
landscapes at a young age. Initially inspired by
the classical masters like Da Vinci, Caravaggio,
Waterhouse, Sargent, Monet, Dali, Luna, and
Amorsolo.
 FAMOUS ATTRACTION

 There are only very few places around the world


where you can see a pink mosque among which
are Malaysia and India. Now, the province of
Maguindanao awaits the completion of its Pink
Mosque. Located in the town of Datu Saudi
Ampatuan, the Pink Mosque, or officially called
Masjid Dimaukom, is set to become the new
face of Maguindanao

 T’nalak Festival

The T’nalak is an intricately woven


tapestry of intense and striking colors.
The hues of intertwined abaca fabric
depict the vivid spirit of the people
whom this unique and artistic weaving
has invariably come to represent.

 GANDINGAN-is a Philippine set of four large, hanging Gongs used by


the MAGUINDANAO as part of their kulintang ensemble.

 KARATUNG-the five Philippine vertically held Gongs known as the karatung


used in the Tiruray agung ensemble.

 Kalbs Balagon

Kalbs started making figurines from ordinary clay and other


clay sculptures since 2004. He joined trade fairs and
exhibitions whenever there are big events in and out of the
region, and now he is one of the most requested to do
customized souvenir items made from clay and other related
stuff.
 FAMOUS ATTRACTION

Sultan Kudarat, with Isulan as its capital, is


located in in the western side of the region
surrounded by the provinces of Maguindanao,
Cotabato, Davao del Sur, Sarangani Province,
South Cotabato and the Celebes Sea in the west.
The province got its name from the Muslim ruler,
Sultan Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat who became
the leader of the Sultanate of Maguindanao.
 FAMOUS FESTIVALS

 Kalimudan

is one of the biggest celebration in the region. It is


an annual gathering of different tribal groups in
the Province of Sultan Kudarat and a celebration
for a bountiful harvest showcasing the richness of
the culture of the people. The festival coincides
with the founding anniversary of the Province of
Sultan Kudarat
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

 KUTIYAPI- or kudyapi, is a Philippine two-stringed, fretted boat-lute. It is the only


stringed instrument among the Palawano people, and one of several among other
groups such as the Maranao and Manobo. It is four to six feet long with nine frets
made of hardened beeswax. The instrument is carved out of solid soft wood such as
that from the jackfruit tree.

 Ronald Tamfalan

Ronald Tamfalan is a well known T'boli


visual artist. He mastered painting on
t'nalak canvass. He had been helping his
tribe by teaching painting with the
younger generation for free.
 FAMOUS ATTRACTION

Tucked into the curves of the beautiful coastline of


Kiamba, Sarangani is Tuka Marine Park, a marine
sanctuary made of 4 protected coves. Only one of the
beaches (Tuka 3) is open to the public and the local
government ensures visitors are regulated so that the
area retains its pristine condition. Surrounded by
thickly-forested cliffs, there are no roads that lead to the
inlet. Instead, a 20-minute boat ride amidst a calm lull
of waves will lead you to this peaceful paradise of white
sand, rich flora and clear turquoise waters.

 Ronald Tamfalan

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (December 21, 2010) -


Ronald Tamfalan, a Tboli artist from
Kiamba,Sarangani does an on-the-spot painting
during the exhibit of his visual art works at the
atrium of Robinsons Place Gensan. His exhibit will
end on December 24. Tamfalan is known for his
tnalak painting in oil.

Tuna Festival is the biggest fiesta in


General Santos City that started in
1998. Fondly called GenSan, the
largest producer of sashimi-grade
tuna in the Philippines celebrates
all things tuna during the first week
of September with this colorful
festival.
KORONADAL CITY

 Koronadal, officially the City of Koronadal,


referred to as Koronadal City, and popularly
known as Marbel, is a 3rd class city in
the province of South Cotabato, Philippines.
According to the 2015 census, it has a
population of 174,942 people.
FESTIVAL

 Festival fever hits Koronadal City this August. AFTER an


exceptional 2015 event, Pyesta Kolon Datal International
Folklore Festival is again all set to stage the second CIOFF
2018 International Festival in the city of Koronadal, southern
part of Mindanao, from August 11 to 18.
