ARTIST'S DETAILS:
 A renowned weaver and recipient of the Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan award, has left an indelible mark on the
world of textile art. Her creations are both rare and timeless, characterized by their higher-than-normal thread
count, intricate designs, evenly spaced threads, and uniform weave.
At 99, Magdalena Gamayo, the grandmother of handwoven cloth Abel Iloko, continues to weave the finest inabel
textiles with a very high thread count and intricate designs that sometimes can take up to five colors.

AWARDS:
1. National Living Treasure of the Philippines awarded by the Philippine government through the National commission on
Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
2. Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan (National Folk Artist Award) also known as Gamaba Award (2012)
3. Dangal ng haraya Award awarded by NCCA

ARTWORKS W/ DETAILS:
1. Inubon a sabong, meaning a string of flowers, is a design created by Magdalena Gamayo with a unique and
difficult weaving technique called “pinilian”. This is also the design that made Magdalena Gamayo to be
nominated and be one of the Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan awardees.

2. Sinan bola-bola is a type of weave pattern consists of ball like shapes.

3. Inuritan is a geometric pattern.


4. Kusikos it has a design of spiral forms that is similar to oranges.

ART FORM: Pottery, specifically known for creating "burnay" jars, which are traditionally used for storing food and
water.

LOCATION: Vigan, Ilocos Sur

ARTIST'S DETAILS:
 Filipino-Chinese mestizo
 He comes from a family of artist and businessmen. His father who married a Filipina from Vigan City started the
pottery business in 1922 which Go inherited in 1970 after his father’s death. One of his brothers is into the
China-ware business in China. To him, the burnay carries with a family history that traces its root in the
hinterlands of mainland China. Go’s Ruby Pottery Shop is one of the two pottery factories producing burnay in
Pagburnayan, Vigan City. His works find themselves displayed in several of the country’s plush hotels reaching
as far as Palawan and Davao in the south.
 Known for his meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to preserving the traditional techniques of burnay
making.

AWARDS:
1. Honored as a National Folk Artist for Pottery by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in
the Philippines (2009)
2. He was one of the 100 Filipino artists given the Centennial Award, a once-in-a-lifetime recognition for local
artists (1998)
