Fernando Amorsolo y Cueto was a

portraitist and painter of rural Philippine
landscapes. Nicknamed the "Grand Old
Man of Philippine Art," he was the first-ever
to be recognized as a National Artist of the

Ronald Allan Kelley Poe (August 20, 1939 –

December 14, 2004), known professionally as
Fernando Poe Jr., and often referred to by his
initials FPJ, was a Filipino actor, film director,
producer, screenwriter, and politician. His long and
successful career as an action star earned him the
nickname "Da King" (i.e. the "King of Philippine
movies").[1] He also wrote, directed, and produced
several of the films he starred in—under the
pseudonyms Ronwaldo Reyes and D'Lanor.[

LEVI CELERIO - MUSIC

Levi Celerio (April 30, 1910 – April 2, 2002) was a Filipino

composer and lyricist who is credited with writing over
4,000 songs. Celerio was recognized as a National Artist of
the Philippines for Music and Literature in 1997.
He is also known for using the leaf as a musical instrument

which led to being recognized as the "only man who could
play music using a leaf" by the Guinness Book of Records.
[1] This led to him making guest appearances on television
shows recorded outside the Philippines.
Aside from being a musician, Celerio was also a poet and a

film actor who appeared in various Philippine films of the
1950s and 1960s.
His musical style is characterized

by its use of Filipino folk music, as
well as Western classical and
popular music. Celerio is also
known for his use of word play
and puns in his lyrics, which often
contain hidden meanings and
messages. Levi Celerio wrote over
4,000 songs in addition to his
poetry and music.

Filipino artists play a role in

presenting and educating the
public about our HISTORY,
CULTURE, SOCIETY AND
IDENTITY.
The artists expresses what he/she feels, sees

around and finds a need to create
something useful but also pleasing to look
at.Then artist gives form to immaterial, the
hidden truths of the universe and the
spiritual force that inhabits the
world.Because of these roles, the artist is
able to refine us and elevate our sense of
what is beautiful and sublime.
An artist reflects the time and

culture of his/her period but seen
in a different light. In this way,
he/she gets influence his reader,
viewer, listener, intentionally or
unintentionally.
The artist is a crusader, attempting to

sway the viewer to his/her side. The
artist has become a social critic,
exposing the inequalities of life,
effects of urbanization, globalization
and nationalism. The artist has also
become advocate of what he/she
believes in.
NATIONAL ARTIST OF THE PHILIPPINES

• Established by virtue of Presidential
Proclamation No. 1001 s. 1972 and aims to
give appropriate recognition and prestige to
Filipinos who have distinguished themselves
and made outstanding contributions to
Philippine arts and letters.
• The order of national Artist is the highest
award conferred by the President of the Phil.
