B. Accomodation
On September 21, 2018, we flew together to Bangkok at 09.00 AM. In Bangkok
we went to the malls and several tourist attractions in Bangkok. On the 22nd we left
Bangkok and went to Khon Kaen at 9.30 PM. We arrived at Khon Kaen at 6:00 in the
morning.
University accomodation is good. We stayed at Sorrento Hotel and Residence
which is located in Nai Mueang, Mueang Khon Kaen District, Khon Kaen 40000,
Thailand. We stayed there for 3 weeks. The rooms has television, refrigerator, air
conditioner, and water heater. 1 room is occupied by 2 students. The rooms in Sorrento
Hotel and Residence are quite good, clean, and comfortable. The distance Sorrento Hotel
and Residence with Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences quite near, a distance of about 1.5
km. We just walk to the KKU bus stop and then we take the bus to get to campus. For the
information, KKU’s bus is free.
Our residence is very strategic, besides being close to the faculty, our residence is
close to mini market, and several eating places. We just walk a few minutes to get there.

4
C. Meals
The food in Khon Kaen city is very diverse. However, we’re rarely find restaurants
with halal logo. Everyday, we ate in a halal canteen which lay on the Pharmacy Faculty.
Sometimes, we also eat in some restaurants that only sell chicken. Although there is no
halal logo. There is no choice because it is very difficult to find a restaurant that has a
halal logo. The only food we ate there was chicken. At night, we sometimes buy sweet
martabak near the residence, and the seller is a Muslim. The School of Pharmacy UMY
bought us a rice cooker. We use it for cook rice for our dinner. So, we made a picket
schedule for cooking rice. We also brought some noodles and dried food to supplyiur dish
while we were there.

D. Transportation
Our journey begins using a bus from Yogyakarta to Jakarta for 13 hours. We arrived
in Jakarta at 05:00 WIB, then we headed to Bangkok using an Asian Air plane from Jakarta
to Don Muang Internasional Airport. We arrived in Bangkok in the afternoon. In the
evening we went to SIAM Center and MBK by using the BTS (Bangkok Sky Train). In
the next day, we toured Bangkok. We went around the Chao Praya river and boarded the
ferry. After that, we went to the Grand Palace which was the residence of the king as well
as the administrative building of the government. After that, we walked to Wat Pho, Wat
Pho is one of the oldest temples in Bangkok. Wat Pho Temple is believed to be the first
school or university to teach knowledge about religion, science and literature. But now it
is better known as a massage center and traditional medicine. In the afternoon, we went
to the Chatuchak market by grab van. Chatuchak Market is one of the biggest markets in
the world. This market is estimated to be visited by around 400 thousand people every
weekend (2 days). Chatuchak Market is only open on Saturdays and Sundays which start
around 08:00 until around 06:00 in the afternoon. In the evening at 09:30, we went to
Khon Kaen using a bus that departed from Mochit station. On the way to Khon Kaen, we
got into trouble because the final dispute from the bus we ordered was wrong. However,

5
we got anothe bus to continue the journey to Khon Kaen. We arrived at Khon Kaen at
6.00 am and we were picked up by Phi Eve at 7:00.
Every morning, we walked to the KKU bus stop, after that we boarded the bus to
get to campus. We boarded the bus with the yellow line. The bus in KKU has many kinds
of lines namely red, blue, purple, orange, and yellow. Our lodging and pharmacy faculty
are on the yellow line, so we only need to take the yellow bus. When we go back to
residence, we often walking. We did not take the bus, because the bus is surrounded the
KKU campus and it would take 30 minutes. So, we often walk to return to the residence.
In occasion, we also use the van of Pharmacy Faculty to go to some of the places that we
will visit. If we want to go to somewhere else, we usually take a grab car. the price is quite
cheap and also the locations we are going to are not so far away.

A. Learning Experience
There are some activities that we do at KKU's pharmacy faculty
1. Attend class
When we attending classes, we attendt the 5th year student classes. We
follow the subject delivered by the lecturer and we also discuss with students in
the class. The lecturer who teaches us is very good at explaining, the subject that
she taught is very universal so we have no trouble understanding the subject. In
there, we see all students have a tab as a learning medium. They don't write in
books or paper, instead they write in their own tabs and also they already have the
subject that will they learn. Students said that this is a learning method used at
KKU to save paper and be more efficient for learning.
2. Go to the lab
We visited several laboratories. In some laboratories, we make products.
We make handwash products and make inhalers. We also visited the spa lab, this
lab is a spa learning place in the Pharmacy Faculty. We were taught to make a
spa tools, look around the room, and also smell some aromas from some oils. Then,
we also visited The Center for Research and Development of Herbal Health
Products, this lab is a lab that examines various kinds of discoveries. We met the
UMY pharmacy lecturer Mrs. Rima, who was continuing her PhD study at the
KKU Faculty of Pharmacy. We visited a lab that contained TLC, HPLC,
Chromatography, etc too. The tools that available at KKU's Pharmacy Faculty are
numerous and also complete. The lab that we visited also had good safety. If we
want to enter the lab, the door must be fingerprinted with the lecturer.

- Srinagarind Hospital

KKU is strategically located because it is adjacent to three hospitals, namely

Srinagarind Hospital, Bangkok Hospital and Queen Sirikit Heart Center. One of
the hospitals we visited was Srinagarind hospital. There is very good treatment
management, ranging from inpatients and outpatients. Doctors do not write
8
prescriptions directly, but recipes are inputted properly through a computer system
and directly connected to the pharmaceutical department. Medications are given as
ODD. For taking narcotics, psychotropic substances, special semi-automatic
devices are used. So that only pharmacists are authorized to take it. For
chemotherapy drugs are placed in special containers. Storage of stock of medicines
is also placed in a special room. Medicines that are approaching expiration are
separated in certain cupboards.

Khon Kaen Hospital is in the heart of the city. Khon Kaen Hospital has
developed structural herbal medicine. There are doctors, pharmacists, and
specialists who specialize in these skills. Patients are given the authority to choose
their own treatment (western medicine or Thai traditional medicine).

We visited the spa, acupuncture and herbal therapies. We also explained some
treatments in Thailand that used herbal plants, cannabis plants which were
legalized in Thailand as medicine. In Thailand, herbal treatments are very popular,
So it's not surprising that herbal products in Thailand are very good. In Thailand,
doctors and pharmacists can take special courses to become herbal doctors and
herbal pharmacists as well.

smoking, this is the diferences between drugstore in Indonesia . This service has
been funded by the Thailand government. If someone wants to stop smoking, they
can go to the drugstore and talk to the pharmacist. Furthermore, in this drugstore
there is a SPA. For the information, the Thailand government has added SPA to
their employee insurance. So, every government worker has got insurance to get
SPA services every month.

around the campus, then examined. The study was conducted by taking cells / parts of
roots, stems and leaves.

Unfortunately the information presented is mostly still written in local languages so it
is difficult for foreign tourists to understand. And also we wnt tu Jubilee Hall. This
was a big place like Sportorium UMY. The function of this Hall is for graduate
ceremony in KKU.

KKU has its own factory to make preparations, medicines and cosmetics. The room
is very sterile, in and out are required to use shoes and special suits to avoid

10
contaminants from the outside. So far there are 4 workers there. The lower floor is
used for the manufacture of medicinal preparations and in 2nd floor for cosmetic
manufacture, in which there is a special room according to specifications, starting from

A. Conclusions and Suggestions

1. Conclusions
- Student Training Exchange teaches that we are accustomed to speaking in
English. We learned a lot about herbal plants in Thailand.
- Extraordinary experience gained is very valuable, both regarding lectures,
traditions, culture in Thailand.
2. Suggestions
In my opinion, if possible, it should be considered for internships to be held in
several hospitals in order to support a better understanding of students about the
problems that often occur.
