INTERNSHIP/INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

The internship report is an organisation study, a case study or survey of an


organisation. The objective is to understand the functioning of the organisation. The
student is to visit an organisation or industrial enterprise to observe the structure,
functions and problem as also to make suggestions under the guidance of a supervisor/
guide of the organisation.

The student is expected to make factual observations about the functioning of a


organisation. The study is organisation specific and the student is to study the whole
organisation (or a wing of the organisation/department). It is compulsory for the
student to take up any assignment or task that may be given by the organisation during
the study period of six weeks.

Duration: The duration of this internship is Six weeks, starting immediately after the
second semester exams are completed.

Regulations:

a. The student ought to have a local (within the organisation) guide/ supervisor.
b. The student shall obtain a Certificate of Internship from the supervisor/
Guide and include the certificate in the internship report.

The Process:

a. Learn about the working environment.


b. Sketch the organisation hierarchy.
c. Study the roles, functioning and activities of employees.
d. Prepare Vision, Mission, Objectives And Goals for the organisation (if it’s not
prepared)
e. Examine the changes in the environment and how best the organisation can
achieve its objectives. (SWOT)
f. Attend to assignments or tasks given by the organisation.

Some Do’s and Don’ts:

Do’s:

a. Observe the organisational dynamics.


b. Make notes every day.
c. Collect published documents.
d. Make an objective assessment of everyone and everything.
e. Make efforts to learn about the organisation environment.

Don’ts:

a. Do not criticize anybody.


b. Do not make arguments about right and wrong doings.
c. Be neither too appreciative nor too critical of the organisation.
d. Do not participate in any organisational politics, if any.

Submission of the Internship Report

The internship report (final typed version, prior to binding) must be shown to the
MBA faculty at presidency on 10th - 26th September 2012 for checking the format,
sequence and any suggestions for improvement. The student will then collect a
“Certificate from the college” from the MBA office and include it in the report.

One hard bound copy of the internship report ought to be submitted to our MBA
office, latest by Monday, 1st October 2012. Please keep a copy of your report for the
viva voce, which will be held sometime in October. The exact date will be announced
later.

Date on which to report at Presidency after internship: 10th September 2012

Submission of final hard bound copy: 01st October 2012

Viva voce examination: To be announced later.

Presentation and viva voce

The internship (industrial training) report will be evaluated by a team consisting of


faculty members from the institute and the University departments. The breakup of
marks is as follows:-

a. Industrial Training Report Evaluation 25 marks


b. Report Presentation* 15 Marks
c. Viva Voce* 10 Marks
Total 50 Marks

theoretical knowledge acquired.
