Lesson 6: Information System Development

Activity Sheet

A. Briefly answer the following questions:

1. State any three (3) reasons to initiate a system development.

(1) the reason is Problem with existing System

(2) Desire to make more effective use of Information.
(3) Organizational growth.

2. Describe what is the waterfall model and its limitations in system development.

The Waterfall Model was first Process Model to be introduced. It is very simple to understand and use. In
a Waterfall model, each phase must be completed before the next phase can begin and there is no overlapping in
the phases. Waterfall model is the earliest SDLC approach that was used for software development.
 Limitations :
 Once an application is in the testing stage, it is very difficult to go back and change something that was not well-
thought out in the concept stage.
 No working software is produced until late during the life cycle.
 High amounts of risk and uncertainty.

3. In system analysis, data are collected for further analysis. Describe in detail the techniques for which data can be
collected. In what situations, these techniques can be applied. (Add examples to explain if necessary).

- qualitative research and quantitative research. Each method has their own techniques. Interviews and
observations are forms of qualitative research, while experiments and surveys are quantitative
research.
Examples:
- Interviews.
- Questionnaires and Surveys.
- Observations.
- Focus Groups.
- Ethnographies, Oral History, and Case Studies.
- Documents and Records.

- we can applied those methods/techniques when were going to make a process of gathering
and measuring information on variables of interest, in an established systematic fashion that
enables one to answer stated research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes.
4. If you are the leader of a development team, which of the following graduates you will consider to hire in your team,
why?
a. Computer Science
b. Information Technology
c. Information Management

B.

- Because on information technology they can help them be more productive. This is a career that benefits any
business by allowing companies to work more efficiently and to maximize productivity. And with that comes
faster communication, electronic storage and the protection of important documentation.
