CHAPTER 1: BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
There a lot of folk healers in the Philippines, one of them is the “Herbalist” or “Herbolario”.
They are unlicensed person who practices the art of healing using traditional practices and
herbal remedies which is very important to the other people especially to those who are
living in rural areas. Herbalist may be a highly trained person who pursues their specialties,
observation and imitation. Mostly the people who can’t afford to go the hospital and check
for a doctor are the ones who benefited on the Folk healers because of low price fees and
they also believe that they will be healed by the Herbalist. They also don’t have their own
hospitals so they usually stay at their own houses and others can be found in front of some
churches.
CHAPTER 1: SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The significance of this study is for people to know if Herbalist are really effective or not.
It can help people especially parents if where are they going if something unusual or
extraordinary happened to their kids or to them. This study about Herbalist can also help
the society to know if they are being fooled or not, and if the cheap payments are worth it
that they are going to heal. Also, this study can help the readers to believe or not to believe
More Specifically, this research highlighted the credibility of folk healers if is it safe
or not. This is also to assess whether Herbalist use the right herbal medication for their
patient. Their basis on their healing method and the advantages and disadvantages of
Herbolario to people.
Moreover, the target of this study is to know how effective can folk healers cure
their patients. And if the people agree in seeking medical assistance to folk healers.
