ABSTRACT

Cigarettes are one of the products that have a negative impact on our health. It

harms every organ in the body, causes many diseases, and reduces the health of smokers

in general. Smokers develop heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer. This led to the

production of non-tobacco device that is thought to be a safe and harmless method of

smoking by replacing burning tobacco and paper with heated, moist, and flavoured air.

This non-tobacco was called the Electronic Cigarette which is being used now by a large

scale of people. This has been used as an alternative to the traditional smoking, and has

led many smokers to cut off their cigarette and settle for a safer way of satisfying their

nicotine cravings. Thus, this comparative study was conducted, with the intention of

determining the risk and health hazard of smoking both cigarettes and electronic

cigarettes to the body to raise awareness and to promote the application of preventive

measures. A questionnaire was administered to the online community to gather necessary

data, thought which it was concluded that: (1) Smoking is associated with a number of

very serious health risks; (2) Smoking also has benefits which are lowering the risk of

knee-replacement surgery, Parkinson’s disease, obesity, death after some heart attacks;

(3) Smokers save more by using electronic cigarettes; (4) Smokers agree that vaping has

changed their life; (5) Vaping is safer than smoking cigarettes because smoking is

associated with a number of very serious health risks
