Activity No. 2
Think, Group, Share:
Code of Ethics

Activity Guide: As a group, answer the following questions:

1. The schools are the “nurseries of the citizens of the state.” What are the nurseries for?
Why are schools called the “nurseries of the citizens of the state?”

When we’re outside of our home we are learning “away from our home”, to make it
simple we students also learn in our school aside from our own house. Many people
always tell that schooling is so hard because of paper works that teachers asked to do
on their students, some always tell that why should keep going on school if one day
all of efforts will gone. Always remember that without those hardships you can
encounter you cannot feel the feeling of successful. On the Article II, Section 1 of
Code of Ethics it has been stated that “the schools are the nurseries of the citizens of
the state” one of the reason is because it was our second shelter of learning new
things for us to use it in achieving our dreams and goals we want have in the near
future. It was also our dairy where we can reminisce when we got old. In school we
can experience a lot of happiness and failures but with that it was our starting point
and tool in achieving our dreams and to get all we want to have in life. Without school
life would be miserable because with that we could be clueless about the things that is
happening around us.

2. “Each teacher is a trustee of the cultural and educational heritage of the nation and is
under obligation to transmit to learn such heritage.” In what ways can teachers do
this?

A society can’t produce a Doctor, Lawyer, Architect, Policewoman, Businessman and

other professionals without the presence of our beloved teachers who render their
time, efforts, perseverance, love and trust on us their students for us to have a better
future. It is clear that teachers are our second parent next after our family. Teachers
boast their knowledge just to assure that we can acquire new things we can use in our
daily lives. They also listen no matter how hard your situation is, they never get tired
on giving advice on us even they can’t tell what they feel inside. Teachers are selfless,
they are not stingy even sometimes their wallet are zero balance. Teachers are so
understanding no matter what culture you have, no matter where ethnicity do you
belong and no matter how poor is your status in life, they still love their students
equally. On the Article II, Section 1 of Code of Ethics it has been stated that “each
teacher is a trustee of the cultural and educational heritage of the nation and is under
obligation to transmit to learn such heritage”. It is true because teachers are
knowledgeable enough in many things. And one thing I assure that teachers will do all
the things they can do for the betterment of their student’s lives. Everyone should on
how to respect teachers because without them we can never be the person we want to
be on the near future.
3. In what ways can the professional teacher help elevate national morality, promote
national pride and cultivate love of country?

If this country will be supported in elevating national morality, in promoting national

pride and in cultivating love for this country a peaceful place will occur. Through
holding hands together and helping each other we can achieve it. There are may ways
on how a professional teacher can help our country for its betterment. First, is by
conducting seminars regarding the issues of our country and let them know what
maybe the possible solution to solve it. Next, is by helping the less fortunate people
who’s not in school to acquire knowledge by going on their places to teach. Because
we all knew that education is the most important tool to achieve success in life.
Another one, is to use the power of social media by telling everyone how important
national pride to our country. Instead of making a gap between each other we should
show love and respect on others. A philosopher once said, “five heads are better than
one” let us all bear on our minds that no one can be successful without the help of
others. So, if we want a better life, we should help each other don’t be selfish because
we may never know when will be the time that we will suffer poverty. Don’t get be
fool by but vibes.

4. What steps do employers take to ensure that a teacher is physically, mentally and
morally fit?

Each person has its own capacities and potentials. With that everyone has a different
talent but come along with that it has the five aspect to be consider. In the five aspect
we have the physical, emotional, spiritual, social and mental/moral. And to be
physically, mentally and morally fit is very essential in any activity because with that
it may lead to a successful one. In every employer it is important to see if they possess
right the five aspect of human body. For us, there are many different steps ensuring
that every employer is physically, mentally and morally fit. One of this is to see if she
is learning by doing, because some are just learning but they stock it on their minds.
Next is look if she’s enjoying on the things that she’s doing, then if not better stop and
learn to see another thing to be done. Another one is to feel if she doesn’t violate any
rule or hurt somebody. Because in working it is happier if you do your job by
knowing that nobody is hurt. Lastly, is to assess her own self if all the strategies and
efforts made by herself in effective to stay longer on the job she chooses to engage
with. If someday we will be an employee let us bear on our mind that with
assessment, we can learn all the errors we made and with that we can now continue
the things that what we are doing but and love the passion that God gave on us.

5. Cite actions of a professional teacher that violate Section 5, Article II.

Teachers was obliged render there knowledge to the students they’ll meet during their
lecture or even in an ordinary conference but it is not good in a teacher if she forced to
tell that students or parents should exchange their efforts thru giving money or any
other rewards. As stated in the Section 5 of Article 2 “A teacher shall not engage in
the promotion” of any political, religious or other partisan interest, and shall not,
directly, or indirectly, solicit, require, collect, or receive any money, service, other
valuable material from any person or entity for such purposes.” A professional can
violate it if and only if she indulged herself in promoting any political issues, if she
uses any religious aspect that can ruin the image of every individual. And most
especially if she collects or insist that her efforts in teaching or in helping others in
return, she should receive a reward like money or gift. In doing good things we should
not expect a gift in return, but we should thank God that even in a small way we make
people smile. In helping it is not about expecting on what the things that what may
God give to you, but it is all about how make yourself proud and how you influence
others life.

6. How can a professional teacher violate Sec. 6 and Sec. 7 of Article II.

Everyone has the right to vote who ever they wanted to vote. To vote is to exercise
our rights and responsibilities as a citizen in this society. As stated in the Article II,
sections 6 and 7 “Every teacher shall vote and shall exercise all other rights and
responsibilities. A teacher shall not use his position or official authority of influence
to coerce any other person to follow any political course of action.” In section six, a
teacher can violate it if she missed to vote during the election period. The chance to
choose the right person to lead was futile because they didn’t vote. While in section
seven it can be violated if and only if she forced a person to vote the person she
wanted to win and if she takes the gratuities given by the politicians just to vote them.
Everyone is advisable to vote the right person because afterwards it was the beginning
of changes that may happen on their own country.

7. Every teacher shall enjoy academic freedom. What does academic freedom mean? Is
this academic freedom absolute?

No one wants to be forever imprisoned with sadness and a repeated lifestyle. Teachers
are human too they also want to inhale a fresh air from the bad vibes they encounter
with paper works and any other thing regarding schooling and teaching. When we say
academic freedom, it is an activity on voice outing own thoughts without taking risk
on professional disadvantages. Teachers are genuine and humble enough, they keep
on their selves the things they wanted to say but to avoid more talks they intended to
keep it on their own. We also knew that teachers are knowledgeable enough, they
have their own opinion in every issue to be tackled. We all knew also that if academic
freedom will be implemented on every professional teacher it can lead to good one
because as long as there is knowledge to conquer, we students are acquiring new
knowledge. With academic freedom, new opinions and thoughts will be heard and
implemented.

8. Read a research article on mental health of Filipino teachers. Give your insights.
Attach the research article to your activity output.

Teachers are very important in our society. They are the one who will educate and
guide us to lead us to our future. The articles state that nurturing and having a safe
school environment are not only for the children but also for the educators as well.
They made a law for the teachers because of the news reported that there are 2
teachers killed themselves due to stress and heavy workloads. This law is the Mental
Health Law or Republic Act 11036 which is a psychiatric or psychosocial services for
the public school teachers so that they can prevent suicide incident for teachers. They
also filed a Senator Bill 1870 a Teacher Protection Act to support mechanisms for
teachers especially for the students discipline and about the classroom management
and the Guidance Councilors will help the teacher handle the students in terms of their
discipline. By this action, I think that they did great for protecting the teachers. They
make teachers and future educators feel special because they are aware about the
everyday hard tasks of teachers working beyond the required hours just to provide a
better future for the children. They appreciated the dedication of teachers to work hard
not just in school matters but also to their homes. Everyone in school must be
protected not just the students but also the teacjing and non-teaching staffs.
9. On Parent-Teacher Conference: View How to: A Teacher’s Guide to Parent Teacher
Conference at YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?video)

State 5 DO’s and 5 DON’Ts on how you should relate to parents for the sake
of the learners. Make sure your DO’s and DON’Ts are concrete.

DO's

1) Be organized- Plan the conference well on what will you discuss to their parents

2) Start your conversation with positive things about their child and end it with positive one
also- This will comfort the parents and you will make it easy to make a well conversation
when they received positive feedbacks first before you talk about your concern to the child
but then end it with a good one.

3) Be attentive and listen carefully to each other- You should respect the one who's talking
and concentrate on what they are trying to say.

4) Be ready for the questions- Be sure to have your records and samples of students work for
back up.

5) Try to get along with them- Try to have fun for you to have a good relationship
with parents.
DON’TS
1)Don't be late- Know your responsibility as a teacher. You are all busy and just find
time for the sake of the children.
2)Don't arrive unprepared- Prepare everything especially on your concern with their
children to parents. You should know everything because they want to know what
their children does.
3)Don't talk about other students-Focus only to their child. Don't talk others child
because your main concern is your child only.
4)Don't have a messy classroom- It is very important because it is not comfortable to
stay and talk if you have a messy room. Be sensitive enough.
5)Don't stray from the topic- You called a conference meeting so don't talk about
topics that is not related to school.

10. Research on ‘helicopter’ parents. What is meant by ‘helicopter’ parents? How should
you relate to them? Watch the 2 video clips on “helicopter parenting” and “effects of
helicopter parenting”.

Child rebels when they feel that they are imprisoned by their own parents because of
too much strictness on them. Helicopter parenting is known as one of the most
dangerous style in raising up a child. Those are the parents who pay so much
attention to their children. Parents who are overprotective to their child and who
always get involved in any activities in their life. They are the one who takes control
in every movement and decision they make. Parents who's making path for their
children and dictate them on what they are going to do and not. These parents are
parents who are happy and enjoy their life and experienced a lot that's why they know
what should be done to their child. But if we look on the other side, we can see some
negative effects. One here is there’s a possibility that the child will commit suicide
because as she is getting older, she’s still depending on their parent’s decisions.
Maybe as the time goes by, she can feel that she is useless because her parents don’t
trust her to move freely and without there concern. Next, is she can rebel on parents
because they are not letting their child experience failure. Lastly, her respect on them
will be faded because every time the child explains they don’t listen and still
embracing the thoughts and ways of their parenting style. Everyone is entitled with
freedom, we should not just keep it we should practice it. We knew that not forever
our parents would stay on our side. Parents should teach their child to be independent.
There is no more happier if the parents could accept their child’s capabilities and
when she experience failure strengthen more their dignity and hope to strive and
accept the challenge to finish her race achieving her goals.

I attest that I have watched the video clips/film and shared my insights with my groupmates:
