CHRISTIAN ART

The Adoration of the Shepherds by El Greco - Oil on Canvas

(La Adoración de los Pastores de El Greco)

It shows us the wonder on the faces of the shepherds as they

contemplate the luminous image of the Christ Child, whom the Virgin
reveals with great tenderness. The kneeling shepherd, who is
adoring with reverently folded hands, might be a self-portrait
portraying El Greco’s increasing devotion.

Christian art is sacred art which uses themes and imagery

from Christianity. Most Christian groups use or have used art to
some extent, although some have had strong objections to some forms
of religious image, and there have been major periods
of iconoclasm within Christianity.

Christian art is an art that symbolizes the life events of

Jesus Christ. The artist remembers how Jesus Christ lived in the
world that important to be remembered by the Catholics. It also
contains considerable history of aniconism in Christianity from
various periods.
INDIGENOUS ART

Bradshaw Rock Paintings

Indigenous art is used by Australian people. They do not have

their own written language, so they use it so that they can pass
on their important information and preserve their culture through
symbols or through arts. It is centered on story telling. It is
used as chronicle to communicate knowledge, events and beliefs of
the Australian people.

The use of symbols is the alternate way to writing down the

stories of the significance of culture. It educates the people on
how to use the land and survive in it. It was important to
recognize the right of indigenous peoples to land, resources and
sacred sites. It is considered to be the respiratory of a society’s
collective memory.

Indigenous art is a very mysterious art that contains so much

meaning or message that an artist wants to convey to people. We
need to appreciate it because it is so simple that it has so much
meaning.
UKKIL ART

They used geometric patterns, ornamental designs and icons.

We can see this in the art of the Tausug, Maranao and Yakans here
in Mindanao, which applies shapes and patterns similar to the art
during the Byzantine era. It usually have motifs shaped like waves,
ropes, calligraphy, decor and colors. It is a technique used in
Mindanao, specifically in the Sulu Peninsula. It is a decorative
design that is used in carving, basketry, pottery, and weaving
with patterns similar to the western style of Arabesque and Art
Nouveau.

CONTEMPORARY ART

Huffy Howler upset one’s expectations regarding the materials

that could make up a sculpture. Most of its components—including
handbags, gravel, and binder clips—were either very close to being
garbage, or very cheap. But the New York-based
Harrison was able to bring these unusual materials together
into a unique kind of cohesiveness that brilliantly teetered
between coherence and absurdity. Her sculptures have been labeled
“complexes,” and unlike Robert Rauschenberg iconic 1950s and 1960s
“combines,” which were an integration of painting and sculpture
into one, Harrison puts together objects that never entirely seem
to combine.
Harrison’s work, and others included in the New Museum’s 2007
opening exhibition “Unmonumental,” offered a counterpoint or even
a rejection of the sculpture that dominated the preceding years:
the big, brash, Neo-Pop of artists such as

MUSLIM ART

Islamic art encompasses the visual arts produced in

the Islamic world. It is difficult to characterize because it
covers a wide range of lands, periods, and
genres, including Islamic architecture, Islamic
calligraphy, Islamic miniature, Islamic glass, Islamic pottery,
and textile arts such as carpets and embroidery. It is the art of
civilization based on Islamic religion. Moreover, it is not only
concerned with particular region or particular people rather it is
a combination of different civilizations and historical
circumstances.

Islamic art has focused on the depiction of patterns and

Arabic calligraphy, rather than human or animal figures, because
it is believed by many Muslims that the depiction of the human
form is idolatry and thereby a sin against God that is forbidden
in the Qur'an. It does not merely reflect the importance of their
culture, religion and others. The artist shows their love and
appreciation for the Qur’an.
Not Without My Daughter

The story is complicated that is based on a true to life

narrative about the effort and struggle that an American woman did
in order to escape from Iran to America with her daughter. The
story starts when an American woman, Betty Mahmoody goes to Iran
with her Iranian husband and their daughter for a two-week jaunt.
He has guaranteed her that they would return to United States of
America.

He was so depressed and rejected about the racism of the

American medical establishment he changes his mind and decides to
reside in Iran permanently. Betty shows frustration and his husband
becomes more cruel, obnoxious and brutal. The movie then plunges
us into a world of Islamic fundamentalism, which it depicts in
shrill terms as one of men who beat their wives, of a religion
that honors women by depriving them of what would be considered
basic human rights.

I was amazed how she had escape Iran and the danger she went
through was precarious. The right not to acknowledge Islamic dress
code and religion was really in Betty Mahmoody’s hands. Moreover,
if we glance through cultural perspective, the difference of
cultures of the husband and wife were really contradicting as of
Iranian to communitarian and American to individualistic.
I realized from that situation that love and trust disappear
when force and deceit are used. Human beings adapt to difficult
situations. Our lack of identity, our confusion as a nation, our
superficial approaches and the blame attitude are now being
witnessed by the world. This movie shows that despite a bad history
between governments, among humans humanity continues to exist.
