STUDY GUIDE
3) What is the difference between “Hollywood” or “Studio” flats and “Traditional” or “Broadway” style flats?
Note: our textbook author differs on this point from what I have always heard in professional practice. He
says “Hollywood” and “Broadway” flats are the same thing. I have always heard that “Broadway” flats are
built in the traditional manner, as he describes for flats that will be used as soft covered or hard covered
traditional flats.
4) What are two fabrics that are often used to cover flats?
5) What are two methods of gluing a fabric covering onto a flat? ie: what are the two formulas used as the
glue?
6) What are the standard minimum dimensions for the width of a door? What is the height of a standard door?
8) What is a prime coat…also often called “priming” a flat, wall unit, etc.?
11) What is the maximum height that platform legs can be without the addition of bracing for more support?
12) What are three advantages of using a stud wall system to support a platform instead of legging the
individual platforms?
