Number 5; Surah Alaq, Mudassir, Qalam, Muzzammil.

Many hadiths on the significance of Surah fatiha.

First surah in the book. “the opening”. Umm ul-Quran/Kitab (Mother of the
Quran/Book - the Arabs used to name anything that summarizes anything well or
consists of the most important part of some matter as Umm or Mother. In the eyes of
Arabs if a thing had many different names, this was an indication of its importance.

Although revealed all at once. Allah revealed Surah in 3 portions.

first part begins with the recognition of Allah - ...Maliki yawmiddeen. Second :
declaration to worship Allah.
Third : Asking for guidance to the correct path.

Essence of the aqeedah. fundamentals of beliefs. foundation of Imaan.

Abu Hurairah (R.A) reported that the Holy Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬once said:

“Allah, the Glorious and Exalted said, “I have divided the prayer between Myself and my
servant equally and My servant shall be granted what he asked for.” Therefore, when the servant
says, ‘All praises and thanks are due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds’, Allah says, ‘My servant
has praised Me.’ My servant has recognised me. When he says, ’The All-Merciful, the Most
Merciful, ‘Allah says, ‘My servant has extolled Me.’ When he says, ‘Master of the Day of
Judgment,’ Allah says, ‘My servant has glorified Me.’ When he says, ‘You Alone we worship
and Your aid Alone do we seek,’My servant is committed to worshipping me. Allah says,
‘this is between Me and My servant and My servant shall have what he requested.’ When he
says, ‘Guide us to the Straight Path, the Path of those whom You have favored, not [the path] of
those who have earned [Your] anger, nor of those who have gone astray,’ Allah says, ‘this is for
My servant and My servant shall have what he asked for.’ “(Muslim) My servant is asking me
to do something for him. Haqqan alayya. Right upon me to fulfill his promise.

Scholars say that the whole Din is contained in the structure of Surah Al Fatiha.
Aqeedah/Iman, committing to worship Allah, get the guidance. summarised entire
Islam. equivalent of entire Quran. We read this Surah at least 17 times a day. Sab’ul-
MathaniMore than anything we read in the Quran.

1. Translate the word hamd in English. All praise.

When you praise someone you mention his good qualities. Mention the qualities. talk
positively.
translate back to Arabic. Praise = ‫مدح‬
Same characters. Meem, daal, ha. not the same.

Hamd = appreciate and recognise the favour that someone bestows on you. Being
thankful. Being appreciative.

Al hamd - All appreciation and recognition. I admit all hamd belongs to this entity.

I say it because it's a fact. not because I want to say it. Body, spouse, children. or
mother nature. behind everything. In this world, we are accustomed to be thankful
anyone that bestows a favour upon us. It is natural when i realise the biggest favor that
is my existence, I appreciate and look up to allah.

This appreciation cannot be partitioned/shared. Saud. what do you appreciate others

for ? surah quraysh. Voting. Just like laa ilahaAt the end of the day you are going to cast
your vote to someone who legislates other than allah.

Who is this Allah? giving introduction. Rabb and ‘Alameen.

‘alameen- plural of the word world. ‘Alam = world. there are multiple Worlds. The
main problem or conflict that exists in the world with regards to religion is not the fact
of the existence of god. the main issue is what is the function of this God? if this god is
going to legislate and maintain your life in a certain order, interfere/involves in the
daily life of people... Not allowed.

Quraysh did not have a problem with Muhammad SAW declaring there is another
God other than these idols to worship. we can worship this god as well. add one
more.

but my God says these gods are not gods. no interest. distribution of wealth. that's a
big no. if you want to be accepted in the normal world order you better keep your
religion outside the scope of life. - Secularism. basically saying Allah is not a Rabb.
Allah is emphasising this issue of Rabb in all the earlier Surahs. it is what makes a
difference

Rabb Always. Everywhere. whatever world... even your own. insane- “he lives in his
own world” . whether there is Islam around you or not.
Slave and a Rabb. do exactly as he says. nothing is out of the scope of Allah. That means
he has unlimited power. even after you die... get out of this life. can you escape? there
is another world that is yet under its control. Governments and people or not in control
more than Allah.

If you say you don't want Shariah you don't want the order of allah. is it possible to
defy the order of Allah when it is His world? they tried-firawn, thamud, ‘ad. we
should be in sync with the order of Allah to be on the straight path.
Most gracious most merciful. unless we get to the depth of the meaning you won't be
able to appreciate.
derivative of the same root. Rahmah- ability to be merciful to something.
Being merciful- always look after the affair of the person or entity that has to do with
your act. daily acts are involved with other people. Family, employee, animal.. make
sure the other party is benefiting. Is not going to be hurt or harmed.
When making a law the try to see the benefit of a certain group - lobby.

they do not take into consideration the benefit or affairs of the people being adversely
affected he may not know or be aware of the consequences .
Allah tells in the verse He is arRahman internally and inherently. it is not something
that appears when he make an action. we cannot call a person arRahman. Not part of
makeup of an entity.
Whole Surah on arRahman. Unique. Allah tells us the traits and characteristics of being
arRahman. He creates, teaches etc as part of His Rahmah.
Raheem- one who acts Rahmah. whoever comes under the scope of his act, Allah
looks at the benefit and goodness of that entity. without adversely affecting
erroneously or wrongfully. Scholars say the punishments of Allah have mercy in them,
to avoid the wrath of hellfire. Or to save humanity.
if you follow the rules of Allah regarding wealth... I give you rizq. merciful within..
we have billion and trillion dollar economy. at the same time 30 to 40 million people
have no food to eat. Africa is one of the richest places in the world. it has gold
diamond fertile land Oil gas water and half of the continent is dying. where is the
mercy?
the only way to get to mercy if it is from Allah. anything that comes from people if it is
not based on what allah says it does not have mercy. and this we know.

When the Elites are fighting the return of Islam, fighting the rules of Allah they are
fighting the Mercy . 1.5 billion Muslim read everyday but leaving the mercy for
something that does not even understand what mercy is..
Malik is an owner. The emphasis on a specific day. New notion .
Deen linguistically means accountability. derivative of debt. you have to answer.
no details in this surah. Very precise verse.
realise that whatever we do in this world you will be accountable. very important
concept of the Aqeedah. what happens after?
is it over? is there a consequence? is there something yet? day of paying back.
who is incharge of that day?
Not over because nobody saw you...like hit and run. He Is the rabb of that World too

On DOJ, allah asks “who owns this day?” . he defeats all - no modi,,,,,no tyrant.
Not “ like it or not, your boss”. Not at disadvantage and he is merciful. everyone will be
judged by him not just you. Those who do not have mercy on you. Nothing can go
unaccountable.

based on this I can make a declaration. what comes to my mind when I have this
recognition, understanding, conviction. Iyyaaka na’budu.
it comes natural. once I realise everything. Why should I worship anything else? UN,
SC, Constitution.
“to you my worship shall be”. Not “I will worship you”. recognition of Allah .
“I did not create mankind and jinn except to worship me”. This conclusion is not
natural, it is based on something. not forcing. Allah needs someone to worship him so
he created man and jinn. as if this entity is obsessed with people worshipping him and
bowing down to him... this is a characteristic of tyrants. My ibadah Is my instinct.
something that can complement your shortcomings. I need it. Allah is self sufficient
before and after creation.

Directing my worship to anything else is insanity and foolishness. Defies reason. “Do
they not think with brains and hearts”, “ like animals”.

while you are in a state of worship we always need to rely on something that will
support oIur shortcomings. Istiaana Means I need help. Because I cannot do everything
by myself. there are always things that are beyond our limits. there is no person in the
world who is self sufficient.

Direct this notion of support to allah. I am incomplete with defects and limitations . I
need to rely on someone for my shortcomings. he won't put conditions on you. Unlike
IMF. “give us political will”. “ give up iIslam”
I say iyyaaka na’budu to Allah and iyyaaka nasta’een to something else, that will ask to
cancel the former.
To sustain myself in life not having pain and suffering and have tranquility within I
better continue to rely on Allah. Or it will conflict with your worship.
If you want to be stable have the same source for both.
Don't violate your Foundation.
UNSC to resolve garden’s issues? Do they have mercy? Are they Rabb? Are they
reliable? They are infact all otherwise.. we depend and look up to something that
blatantly defies allah’s orders(how it was founded)

Iyyaaka na’budu is exclusive.

ihdi=Give me the inclination. Give me direction
how do you worship allah? how do you make sure that whatever you do will please
him?

it is narrated that at the time of revelation in that environment there were three people
in Mecca who were called al Muwahhidoon - the ones who do not worship idols. this
was before Islam.

one of them was waraqa bin naufal, khadija’s uncle.

there was a man who used to sit next to the Kaaba and the people would hear him say
“ I know you exist I know you are my Rabb. all these idols are not my gods. but I do
not know how to worship you. if I knew I would”
I am a created being. Allah knows me. I don't know him.

asSirat - path. alMustaqeem-straight. Why do we need a path?-to walk on. to go

through.
I need guidance to this path. I need to make sure it is allah’s path
Not based on what you think is benefit or seems to be good for me. my benefit is to
worship Allah. not the other way around. worship is not based on what I think is
right.

Elections - it is in the best interest of us to have a representative. so an obligation=

ibadah. Go to the Quran and Sunnah and find out what is right and wrong based on
what Allah says.
If Allah says you don’t need a representative, you cannot do this type of legislation...
then that's my interest.
Calling SC and NATO to resolve issues. sounds beneficial and of interest. “Give
tidings to the hypocrites fire of hell who ally with the kuffar to seek power and dignity
through them.” “izzah only comes from allah.

BTW Immediately after 2 ayats allah says..”that is the book no doubt which contains all
the guidance for the muttaqeen=those asking for sirat alMustaqeem”. Allah has given
us the template how to ask. And giving the answer immediately.

Tirmidhi #76 records on the authority of Nawwas ibn Sam’an that the messenger of
Allah (sallallahu alyhi wa sallam) said:
“Allah has set forth the following as a parable:

There is a road that leads straight to the destination. On either side of the road there is a wall
in which there are open doors with curtains hanging on them. From the remote end of the
road, a voice calls, ‘proceed straight and do not turn aside’. Whenever someone intends to
lift a curtain from the door another voice calls from above. ‘Beware! Do not lift the curtain;
otherwise you will be lured inside’.

The prophet (sallallahu alyhi wa sallaam) explained the parable by saying that the
straight path is Islam. the walls are the limits imposed by Allah (hududullah), the open
doors are the things that He has prohibited(hurumatullah), the voice which calls from
the end of the road is the Quran and the voice which calls from above is Allah’s monitor
in the heart of every believer”.

Exit of riba, zina, nationalism=We are brothers because we are blood related, patrotism-
we are brothers because we live on the same land, capitalism, democracy-decorated
with lights of liberty, freedom, rights, liberal.
Exit of not paying dues to parents with humility, leave children without islamic
upbringing.
Exit of investing in haram .
All these exits are listed. Haram and halal are bayyin.

“I have not left anything that will bring you closer to Paradise and keep you further
away from Hell but I have certainly taught you about it”
Jibrail told me “Allah has written your rizq, so ask for it in the halal manner”

We are doing the other way around. “Nationalism is rotten” we are more nationalists
than anything else. We are proudly waving trash. We hold so tightly. We are so proud.
What about raaya?

Why to ask when we are not following?

No ambiguity. ‘The path of one on whom you bestowed your favor upon” - the
muttaqeen.
The ones on whom allah has favoured - prophets, siddeeq-very truthful to religion-i
accept, i commit. Follow without hesitation. Abu bakr as Siddeeq….,and martyrs.
“We listen and obey”-mu’min. the best Associates
Give us Details of sirat almustaqeem.. included in the verse.
power of the Quran : does not leave cases ambiguous. Just like the shahadah.
Conclusive. “ I don't want the sirat of ..etc”. the completeness.
The one that makes you angry. in most of the commentries, it’s the jews (and the
other-christians) Observation - elite and powerful.

according to the prophet SAW, the thing that angers Allah the most when his
hurumaat(The things that he has made sacred) are violated. there are many things.
(Jews did violate. But its done with them)
One of the most sacred doing a Allah created in the world is the Kaaba …”after the
hajj”. But also the prophet SAW that something is Greater - “blood of the Muslim”
Blood of a Muslim is violated everyday. and Allah is angry..” and we are asking don't
make us among the magdhoob?
Since so long, so many countries…while.all the time ummah is reciting 17 times a day.

dhalaal=lost. In the deserts, if somebody loses a camel, looked all over- lost forever.
Not coming back. Beyond the scope of Islam is is dhalaal.
Dhaalleen are not just christians. everyone who sees the guidance but does not follow it.
no matter what not going to implement the shariah. Democracy, civil state,.. We fear
upsetting our loved ones and employers...how can we upset our Rabb.

IK – You let the blood of muslims spill with the excuse of rotten nationalism. You look
upto the oppressor because of “your economy”? Is noodles your Rabb and Raaziq?
All of you play with words and sentiments and do not take any action when allah’s
hurumat are violated. Citing hikmah, diplomacy etc. You decide whats benefit? Have
you forgotten about a day of accounting?

Let not these powerful verses become Empty words and slogans having no impact on
our behavior, our thoughts, our life.

Aameen - not an ayah. “Oh allah please accept”. Hadith - “angels ask aameen for us”.

ashShafi, alAfiyah,

There is joy in reading the Quran. But that's not the objective.
“Let not the fear of people stop you from speaking the truth when you see or witness something.
Verily, speaking the truth or reminding about a great matter will not draw death closer or deprive
someone from his provision (rizq).” [Reported by Ahmad]
