The Meaning Of Laa Ilaaha Illa Allah

Alhamdulillah, we never stop giving thanks to Allah SWT, who has given us uncountable
favor. Starting from physical pleasure to spiritual health, the presence of free time and the presence
of limited time, the transmission of knowledge about this temporary world to the everlasting world.
and many people are negligent of these presences of blessings, whether I have mentioned above or
not. Their bodies are healthy, but they do not use it for serving to Allah SWT. They waste and
refuse the given opportunities to do the best worship to Allah SWT. Given the impossible
calculated knowledge with common sense, but they are not willing to deliver it to the others.
Therefore, we ask for protection from Allah so that we can be kept away from negligent of the
given blessings.

Salawat along with greetings to the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Also, for His family, friends
and followers.

Ikhwanii fillah...

The first pillar in Islam is shahadatain (the Two Testimonials):

‫أشهد أن ال إله إال هللا و أشهد أن محمدا رسول هللا‬

It means, there is no worthy god of worship except Allah and Muhammad is the messenger
of Allah, this is the first and most important pillar on which the rest of Islam's pillars are established
and from which all of the religion's rulings derived. If this base is firm and well established, the rest
of the actions will be set aright and accepted by Allah, thus earning rewards. If this base is not
established on a firm ground, all good deeds will be ruined and become like scattered, floating
particles of dust, or like a mirage in a desert that the thirsty thinks is water until he comes up to it,
and he finds it to be nothing. Or it is like ashes scattered on a stormy day. In this case one's good
deeds will become a burden in this life and a cause for sorrow and grief on the day of resurrection.

Ikhwanii fillah...

Shahadatain have meaning and implications; those who declare them are required to acquire
Knowledge in their meanings and implications and to adhere by them. Otherwise, merely
pronouncing the shahadatain will not avail the professed laa ilaaha illa allah asserts that none the
right to be worshiped except Allah.

‫أن ما يدعون من دونه الباطل و أنّاهلل هو العل ّي الكبير‬

ّ ‫بأن هللا الحق و‬
ّ ‫ذالك‬

Testifying that there is no worthy god to be worshiped except Allah requires associating
none with Allah in worship. Declaring this testimonial means disowning all worshiped objects
besides Allah, obeying him, and abandoning all that he has forbidden.

This is the meaning of laa ilaaha illa Allah. Muhammad saw made the gods only one god,
with the implication abandoning worshipping all things except Allah. Arab pagans understood this
meaning, for they were eloquent Arabs. However, those who revere graves in the present time do
not understand the essence of laa ilaaha illa allah, and this is why they worship the dead. Hence, the
Mushrikun of old were more knowledgeable than they in the true meaning of laa ilaaha illa allah
and its indications. These Muslims who worship graves say dhikr laa ilaaha illa allah. They call on
the dead and supplicate to them to send them aid and relief from disasters. They circumambulate
around their graves and sacrifice in their names. What does laa ilaaha illa allah mean to these
people and what benefit does pronouncing it bring them? Verily, they are a people who do not
understand.

The Two Testimonials have meaning and implications; those who declare them are required
to acquire knowledge in their meanings and implications and to adhere by them. Otherwise, merely
pronouncing the shahadatain will not avail.

I say this and ask Allah the Great, and the Most Honored for forgiveness for me, you and all
Muslims for every sin, so invoke Him for forgiveness, for He is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
